Thanks Brenndan - I'll give you a buzz if it doesn't work out with Damo's stash.

Well Troy's Type 3 wont be competing at warwick despite our efforts. Tuners simply cannot get it wired and tuned by next Friday. The car will still go up there to be put on display so everyone can see the engine in the car minus the ECU and sensors and Troy will put it in the show and shine.

We tried but time got the better of us. So I guess it's over to Pete's to get the chop top going and get the yellow car finished.

Thats bad news Brenndan - sorry to hear you couldn't get it sorted in time.

Well last night I managed to get a lifter from Damo (66deluxe) and oil dipstick adaptor (as mine wouldn't arrive in time) - thanks to Pete and Brenndan and others for the offers of help.

Was too tired last night to do any work after driving back from brissy to get the rocker so back onto it tonight to hopefully continue wrapping up this engine. Just need to get my pushrods cut to length though - thats the next challenge (you haven't got your three phase wired yet do you dave??) ;)

Tomorrow will see the line locks go into my oval and Brad's ghia. Wish we had another week!

My car has been ready for a month however, before I can go I had to pull the engine out of my sons EXA and change the clutch, water pump, reseal the steering rack and do the timing belt and fix some oil leaks (message to myself.....never work on front wheel drive cars again). That keeps my son happy if it's finished this weekend.

Now, as it's my wedding anniversary during Warwick and I will be spending the weekend with you guys and not my lovely wife. So, I had to remodel the lounge room by cutting two great holes in a couple of walls. Spend countless hours smoothing and sanding plaster, repaint the loungeroom and the hallway paint number 3 sons bedroom and shift 5 rooms of furniture to have new carpet laid. Hopefully by Friday I'll be finished.

Then and only then there maybe some glimmer of hope that I may end up with anough browny points to have her speak to me when I get home.

Happy anniversary babe.....:kiss

You're a brave man! I thought I had an undertstanding wife! Luckily our anniversary falls a few days after warwick so we'll celebrate next weekend!

Today saw the gearbox bolted in place finally for good (well at least until the next change), facet elec pump installed, new stainless 8mm hard line fixed under pan, a few rubber lines plumbed up, line lock brake lines fixed (wrong fittings).....and Brad's ghia line lock installed and wired (brake lines to go in tomorrow).

Early night tonight which is good for a change! :P

Thanks Dave, I'll give you a buzz tomorrow - I was going to cut them and hand finish them today but ran out of time. On a positive note though, Brad's line lock is in and functional - mine is in, just needs to be wired and bled.

Will lap cylinders to heads tomorrow night then finally torque the heads down, install pushrod tubes and move onto assembling ancillaries. Gearbox is in and bolted up using all solid mounts and rear brakes (will stick with original oval brakes for now) have been reco'd (machined and new shoes), painted and installed plus new hard lines everywhere except for main line down tunnel. New 8mm stainless fuel line clipped to bottom of pan, just need to get more rubber hose tomorrow and install regulator once engine goes in.

Huge thanks to Damo for loaning me a 1.7 rocker already clearanced for swivel feet (Damo if you read this I'll post the exhaust rocker to Jake, and you can pick up an inlet replacement when you are there) plus an oil dipstick adaptor.

Thanks to Alan Herbert for the loan of his Carbs, linkage and pipe benders!

Went to put adjustable spring plates on and JCL retainers however realised the oval torsion bars are too long (oval spring plates have the splines extended right out past the cover) - does anyone know for sure if 1200 torsion bars are the right length, or is the oval torsion housing overall length much narrower than later beetles? If I can't get the torsion bars sorted, I'll just put the stock stuff back on for now.

Now, less typing....more working! Back to it. :duh

Alan,
40hp tortion bars and spring plates are bolt in.

The widths are the same overall,
so long as the spring plates are to suit a particular tortion bar.
