Wow this is so sad, I remember seeing this car for the first time a couple of days before the Jamboree back in 01 on the back of a trailer on the goldcoast. Was blown away after i started looking over it and found it had the orginal front supension setup in it, Do you still have at this Dave or was it lost when you got the car? This car is just as important as any of the US gassers!

When Darrel /Volksmod rebuilt this car in 1990/1991 for the first Jamboree,
the original Camel/Keegan tube axle was replaced with a much safer chromoly front tube axle, and motor cycle coilovers.
This front suspesion is apparently cruising around in a hotrod now days.

We have come to the conclusion that the original pan is long gone,
as is the pan that Darrel used for the 90's rebuild.

I have been able to source the majority of the 1970's front suspension components,
that keegan used in his original version,
including Anglia/Prefect drums,
and the 12" rims with 125 michelins that were used in the 1970s.
We also have the original 'chute, engine bracing, rear apron('sand' colour from desert "camel" signage),
among many other small tit bits.

The owner is unlocking some funds from his many other projects to give this project a good push in 2011.

I will take some pics soon of the pile of parts.

Hi guys, I'll let Rod and Dave do the updating but just wanted to give a shout out to say thanks to Rod for involving us at DAS Resto Haus to bring this car back to its original (well one of its original) liveries.
Cheers

WOW!
Thanks for posting those rare old pictures!

It is so amazing to see those pics like it was yesterday.
As time goes on we can realize what an amazing acheivement it was
for Peter to run the numbers that he did so long ago.

I turned 42 this year and was only 7 or 8 years old when Peter raced in NZ.

Great shots - the more the better!! Certainly helps us to narrow down some of the fine details of the car when it was in its Camel days - there has been a lot of magnifying glass time spent on the photos and lots of views of the youtube link trying to ascertain some details :)

If okay with Peter, Ross (and Ross's wife), the graphic designer/illustrator that does a lot of work for us is happy to take on the recreation of the old school shirts. Obviously we wouldn't intend to sell them, moreso make available to those involved with the car (past incarnation or present restoration).

Anyway, that issue aside we have rebuilt a lot of the rear end sheetmetal that was cut away in a later period so the original rear apron can be fitted. Some more sympathetic panel smoothing to continue this coming week before primer goes on. Rear decklid with scoop is being recreated currently as well.

Cheers

Hi guys.
Wow, where to start.......first up the photos that motha posted are the only ones that I have from the NZ trip, but I must stress that they are not mine, I was sent them by Ralph Smith about a fortnite ago. Ralph is a Kiwi that is a wealth of information on NZ Drag Racing history, he was kind enough to seek them out for me. Since then I have been sent them by two other people, the last was this morning by Pete Keegan......like Peter Page said, can't beat the old web to get stuff around LOL.
Anyone that knows me is aware that I am very passionate about Aussie Drag Racing history and I would like to thank Rod and Dave and anyone else that is chipping in to bring this Icon back for us all to enjoy, believe me it is a good thing that you are doing :tu:.
The Tee shirt......go for it, I'm still looking for my original, we moved house about 6 years ago, I hope it came with us :D
Lastly I would like to thank Rod for keeping me posted on the progress, it's VERY much appreciated.
Keep it lit,
Ross.

Castlereagh, about 75, I'm staged and pulling the goggles down, Pete is still doing one of his customary dry hops :D

Thanks for sharing Ross!
The more I get into all these pics and the ressurection(sp?),
the more I feel like i was actually there!
You being 'right there' must have been good times,
and thus why you are so enthusiastic about the whole Nostagia Racing scene.

You don't happen to remember what steering box pete used in that car?
I asked but he could not quite remember, he was thinking some kind of Austin.
The stubs and stuff were all Anglia as far as I can tell, which pete confirmed.

What types of cars did you race in the "old days"?
Looks like a red motor with tripple webers on that one!

Hi all,
Just a quick post to explain the absence of those great Keegan/Preen NZ tour photos.
We are just working on clearing the use of them with the photographer before we get them back up .
They came to us second hand and we just want to do the right thing . Apologies to the chap who posted them .
Car is going well with body prep work almost done. Thanks to the whole team and in particular Ross who is a great source of info and was actually there.
Pete Keegan has also had input on the resto.
That last photo Ross posted is AMAZING .
Get back to you soon .
Please PM me any questions
Thanks. Rod.

Hi Dave.
Sorry I can't help with the steering box either. The pitman arm may give a clue, or maybe the mounting holes will tell a story, it may be an Anglia.
Knowing Peter, what ever it was it would have been LIGHT.
As far as what we raced, if you send me an email ( cacklecar@gmail.com ) I'll send you some photos, I don't think it's right to hijack this great thread with non Camel Car stuff
