Cool Vid, bring them on!
Here's a few pics from Jon Kruger who competed and won his class on the weekend. I believe this was his first time racing and a monumental effort by
him not onlt to race but to find time to get on top of his extremely busy business, finish his car and then take it to portland and race.
What makes this even more special is that the fellow next to him is Garnet Kruger, Jons father who has helped Jon build this car and has been into
VW's owning his own VW dealership since Jon was a young boy. This is the ultimate father and son team and a very special moment for both of them.
Well done once again Jon.

I was mighty impressed with the car when it I saw it on display at the VW Nationals a few years back. I'm even more impressed now that I've seen it
run.
Well done Jon.

Great to see some pics and stories of the event.
A bid disappointing to hear some negative comments. No one can change the weather or the mechanical dramas.
This was my first ever vw drag event, and I was only there as a spectator. I came up on the Sunday morning after attending a family wedding the
previous night. I was there to enjoy the event which I certainly did. Good to see some different cars to the usual Victorian attendees.
Big congrats to the Debiasi cars which all looked fantastic and was good to meet crazy Renee and his spider.
whoever said 'put your money where your mouth is' - I came from the middle east (I m back now), and drove down for what was essentially 4 hours of
time at the event and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Where were you?
BTW who ever it was that said at the presentation:
"keep supporting the VW scene by buying the magazine" was right. Congrats to Craig for organising the event. Was good to talk with you breifly and
Brian White was the consumate professional while taking photos. I hope he enjoyed the drive down the ocean road and arrived safe in Perth.
keep the photos coming.

Rene Felkl is essentially a circuit racer, having competed many times in the Adelaide Classic and at local Porsche drive days. His comment to me was
that these sort of VW events have given him an entirely new perspective on the hobby - they are fun, everyone talks to each other, and there are no
lines drawn in the sand. He is now a convert. For some reason, he and I were matched frequently during qualifying, and I'm yet to get the better of
the VW powered Spyder.
Kimm, the Golde looks sensational, and will no doubt come up a treat in the next issue. Brian knows his craft. Other cars to be given the feature
treatment in and around the scenic area of Portland were the Spyder, Mitchell Lovell's blue Oval, Ian Poynter's Marlin buggy, and a sweet split
panel. Thanks guys for making the trip.

Ahhhh!
It WAS Rene!
Good to know he is converted.
He is a very passionate VW owner.
His Ghia is even nicer than his WIFE'S spyder!
What times did the Spyder run?

I'm also curious about the RSK Spyder, it appears to be rear engined, but I'm almost certian they were midengined.
I realise its a replica (at least I think it is) but why would they make it rear engined?

I wondered why everyone talked with a South Australian accent and bowed when Adam walked past!
All the SA guys were doing 8s and below I think? Did Barry get the Ascot into the 8s? He had a lot of runs on the weekend.

Huge week-end for us !!!!Still very tied from driving ( over 2000kms each way ) Thanks to Rod Richardson for support and co-pilot .We drove straight
down to Portland ,we had a liittle sleep on road stop ,then pick up family at Warrnambool (very late at night 11.15 ) They waited there plus having
time to watch a movie after we got lost .
Well I wasn't confident the week-end was going to happen (weather not good ,17deg with a big wind factor)
Portland is one beautiful place ,with very nice food places (a little hard to get nice fish & chips ) and friendly people .
I think most poeple end up at Portland Disposal store where it look like you could by anything there!! or down at the wharf looking for the seal ,
chasing a feed from the fishing men .
My hat goes off to ALL that came !! to Craig at vwma and Southcoast Raceway , Thank you from Dak-A-Tak .
Sorry to those that had breakages or a crazy trip but it all goes around !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The track was very good for what the weather gave us and by sunday race end it was coming around fine .
Yes the retune road was very poor and race loop but they are a very small club that is working to improve complex as time goes on .
My car ran fine and strong for first outing (7.68et ) just wish we had a little more tweeking time on race day .
Check -out race report and pics on our website http://www.dak-a-takracing.com.au ,video's coming over week-end (Lisa is a little tied too)

Yeah thats right CRAFT 4 me
850 feet that was some weird measurement
i ended up sending letter to the NSWHRA to get them to reduce the track distance down to the standard 1/8 mile or 660 feet so when we raced we
had some sort of standard to compare times with to the USA as the distance meant nothing apart from when racing at Oran Park
we still r friends

Ouch
Hi Westi,
I watched our car as it was being towed across the grass at Portland. The back wheel was turning about a quarter of a turn in both directions as the
car was being dragged forward! How on earth did you manage to get it on the trailer?
That gearbox looks pretty damn messy.
I love your exhaust system.
