My turn.
What a fantastic weekend. The quality and effort to produce these cars blew me away. Pete’s car looked great and ran equally as well. Westi’s car
was outstanding, as were the pink shirts, Rod and the chop top were on song, Troy’s fasty will be one to watch out for and of course Mr consistency
Dave Butler was unbeatable as usual.
All the other guys who made up the fields all deserve kudos for making it a great weekend. No complaints, except maybe the dust and well done to
Craig (VWMA) and the Warwick track officials for putting on a great event.
My car exceeded my expectations with a best time of 8.39 and best speed of 81mph. Not bad for small block. ¾ of a second faster than last year and
7mph quicker with the same engine. Just goes to show what a bit of weight reduction, slicks and a Dave Butler gearbox can do.
Only let down was an accelerator cable which busted a strand and seized in the outer at full throttle. Made for an interesting trip around onto the
return road.
Time now for some more weight reduction and a set of adjusters in the front beam to lose the baja look then off to the quarter in time. Thanks again
to all for a great weekend

Top job Stanley. Only saw one of your runs from the staging lane and car looked like it was doing all the right things!!
Looking forward to a Volksy test and tune at Willowbank soon. Troy is keen once he gets full tune done and is getting full throttle!!

Yeh…I’m keen for a T&T at Willowbank but want to pull the front beam and fit some adjustors and maybe narrow it an inch or two first. Baja’s
just aren’t meant to run on the quarter.

I don't beleave it ! thats one big wheelie !
Stanley save your dollars and put drop spindles on the old girl and smaller tyres . Don't bind up the front end with ajusters ,plus stock length
shock will still fit .
Car sounded great mate . Let us know when heading out to track .

That's true!
I remember my first wheel, and I think it was even smaller than Stanley's!
Before I knew it I was searching magazines, and asking guys like Henry and Peter K what style of wheely bar to build!
This was what I came up with:

Before you get excited and think I have pictures od 100ci engine carnage, sorry there just trailer pics.
This is why I haven't pulled out yet.
At the mo although the CofG is exactly where I worked out it would be I've decided the car sits too far forward so i'm going to bring the car and
axle back 5 inches. Rather than cut the old spring hangers off and weakening the frame, I'll just weld another set on and it can then be used for
front engined cars I guess.
More on engine carnage soon.

How's the balance Andrew.... From memory you'll be wanting around 70kg on the tow ball for it pull nicely.... I'd check that first...
Nice long drawbar though... Will make for a sweet tow...

Lancers towbar is only rated at 100kgs. At the moment with the ramps in place I have 25kg on the tow ball.
Would be happy with a bit more so I'll fix it up.
and yes Dave it's amazing what you can find at work lying around.

those wheel chocks would be rated to hold more weight than your car could ever weigh I'm guessing as well as power....

looking good.
I think it was around 85kg on the draw bar, not 100% though.
looks like it's going to need more than 5 inches back.
remember it's about getting the car to the drags not a trailer comp like a mate of mine did.

I'd move the car back so it doen't over hany at front and move axle back on trailer so it's at 3/4 of car length ( about kill switch area ). Looks
like it might bend at rear if you leave it like that ,remember the movement when traveling alone (like bending wire to brake it )
I need some wheel chocks too !!!

Trailer load testing
Well after some minor mods I load tested the trailer today.
What better way to test than to put something heavy on it. The notch weighs around 900kgs
Ended up making a small subframe from angle to sit the chassis rails on. This can then be moved fwd or back for different cars. I just need to raise
the mudguards a bit as the notch was almost touching. Not a problem with the beetle but better to do it now. Paint and wire to go.
Now all thats done I can pull the engine from the beetle and find out the damage.
Cheers
