ok cool hopefully it will work well.

i got the engine in this afternoon but will have to wait for tomorrow to get it running - ran out of time and was feeling pretty lousy.

didnt take any pics coz my camera is out of batteries, but the air cleaners are ridiculously tight fit... i knew they would be tight but not this tight!! one side is literally touching the engine bay metal!! will this cause damage with vibration etc..?

Help!

i cant get the ignition working..
i wired everything back up and went to turn the the key and...nothing. the lights dont come on or anything and pressing the button does nothing of course.
im sure its wired up correctly. i took note of how it was before i took it out. red wire to generator on upper + terminal and green wire below. green wire connector has only got half a connector on the end though (has been broken so is a bit loose but there is contact).

is it possible that the battery has gone dead while ive had the motor out?
please help

cheers

Looks good mate!

probs zip tie the old choke leads out of the way. not a good idea to cut them... :| or you could just remove them all together....

Check you've not nudged the wire off your starter solenoid when pulling the engine. Also. Check you've not blown a fuse with those carb preheat wires as they can easily ground out.

Cheers

Steve

Hi.. If you have trouble with the carbs hitting the body, try shimming the rubber mounts on the subframe. They settle in over the years and the engine moves up in the engine bay.

Hi Burelli

That sounds good but im not exactly sure what you mean (where are the rubber mounts?). I would have thought shimming them would make it higher but thats probably cause im not sure where they are...

Hi izac
The Subframe is the tortion bar housing and forks that your engine and trans bolts into. On a type 3 it is rubber mounted to the floor pan and not welded like a type 1. It is mounted at 3 points, over the years the rubbers deform (on a swing axle car especially) and the subframe, engine, trans all move up closer to the hatch and load floor. I don,t know where originally it all should sit but some shims (big washers) underneath the 2 back ones, just enough to get some clearance for your air cleaners should be OK.

don't know if you read on my other thread in new members, but I didnt even drive my Notch before I bought it! I didn't even sit in it!!

I just love the early style type 3's.....in fact I am already looking for a square as well......but no real hurry for that one :D

There is plenty to do on mine before I need another one!

Yeah, I love the early Type 3's too.. they are such good looking car in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind a Notch too. Maybe one day  but one old car is enough time and money for me at the moment :starhit:

If you plan on lowering yours, I would suggest modifying the bump stops on the front beam as you will find it will be a very bumpy ride if you dont. In my opinion they handle a lot better when they are lowered (and look sweet of course!) especially if you have the right tyres/wheel offset on the front.

mine has already been lowered all round, but only a slight lowering, possibly only one spline (why bother??)
the future plans entail dropping it quite a bit further. Thanks for the heads up on the bump stops though mate!
I have been reading a lot about lowering on the UK Restocal site, http://www.restowagenuk.com/forums.html
if you haven't checked out that site before...do yourself a favour, they have some SWEET rides!
some of those guys run their cars unbelieveably low!!.....looks good but!:tu:
