yeah, i'm wishing you good luck Glenn, heaps of it, don't worry 'bout that........

so is your interpretation/knowledge that these newly declared "modified" vehicles should/will be picked up in the next twelve months, be it through roadside defects or usual course of annual pink slips?..........

wonder what the standard "trim height" for a beetle will be declared at and if it will vary for year models.................how the f&$K they gonna figure that out!

did beetles make the standard 600mm headlight height from the factory anyways?

.........and which part of QLD are people reccomending at the moment

Hi

Stock bugs headlight height would close 600mm, who knows.

This is the same government that recently allowed cars younger than 5 years old not to need a rego check, Ive seen cars in a very poor state in much less time than that, so who is checking these cars?

That also means that you could buy a new car and do all sorts of modifications and not have the car properly looked at for 5 years.

Maybe they are going to have more roadside checks.

true that

i dropped in to see a mechanic mate a few weeks ago and he was doing a service on a BF fairmont
i didnt look at the date of it but being a BF its less than 5 years old but looked 10, dings all down the sides, bottom lip of the back bumper broken off and when he kicked it in the guts it spent 10 secs spluttering before it setteled to a steady idle

i looked inside and it had 328,000kms on the clock
owner lives out west of mallanganee on a shitty road and buys a new car every 5 years so he doesnt have to worry about pink slips

Hi

I just sent my email to my local member, we all need to do this.

Feel free to use any details you find useful.

======================

Hi Kevin

I’ve met you a few times when I was Cub & Scout leader at xxxxxxx Scout group.

I’m a keen car restorer and modifier and I’m very concerned about the new RTA rule VSI 50, it will severely impact on two of my vehicles and my hobby.

My son and I have two VW Beetles that I’m restoring for future road use and to use in motor sport events, one is still registered and will be back on the road in a few weeks, the other will not be ready for registration for about another year

I have spent 10s of thousands of dollars with local suppliers and tradesmen on these vehicles already, and I was planning on spending many more thousands of dollars with local businesses.

I have always complied with existing RTA modified vehicle rules and guidelines and don’t consider myself a hoon and only drive my cars at speed in a controlled motor sport environment.

Perhaps a better idea would have been to enforce existing RTA regulations to stamp out illegally modified cars.

Besides affecting myself this will impact many other individuals and aftermarket businesses, can you bring this matter up with Mr Daley on my behalf?

Regards Steve Carter,

Send them to the Office of the Minister for Roads as well. You probably won't get a response - I haven't, and I began my emails Monday a week ago, but they need to realise how many normal people this affects. My guess is in the tens of thousands: most mummies and daddies don't realise the second-hand 4WD they bought to do some camping, or possibly the ex-government Commodore (ex police and lowered) could be put off the road next Monday:
If you have ANY modified car, engineered or not, I urge you to send a short email outlining its modifications and asking if it will still be legal from August 1. Also, feel free to cut n paste the following.
"I also wish to voice my absolute disgust at being labelled a 'hoon' by the Hon Michael Daley in his press release dated 16 July 2009 because I have chosen to improve and personalise my vehicle."

Good luck with your letters to your local members. The local school bus was hit and miss down here. Sometimes it came, sometimes it didnt. When it did come it missed stops, one time it even went on the wrong route. My local member forwarded that on too. I think it took 2 or 3 months before we got a letter back from the relevant minister who informed us that the matter was resolved. It was, but only because parents took it up with the bus company on their own.
