Hey Bug_racer, do you want to race against street Beetles to compare performance? I'm confused.
Maybe you can be in the other engined/VW bodied class, there seems to be a few of them around.

So Bug Racer, if the rules grouped you in with aircooled beetles, and you were the only watercooled car in that group/class.....and you won, that
would make you happy ?

I can see a dedicated street beetle class being well supported in the US of A but here in OZ, although there are some bloody quick street beetles
around, but shouldn't we focus on just getting all cars out there? What about kombi's and type 3's?
Sorry. water pumpers aren't my bag but all volksies need some love, especially on the track.

Why send me links to WSID ?
I can send you some links to Warwick and Portland where Im trying to make this relevant .
I'll try and start again and make it a little more clear this time :
last year at Warwick there were 2 watercooled cars . One was my wifes and the other was a Van . At the rate watercooleds are entering Warwick this
year Im probably going to be the only watercooled car there . I want to make a category for both air and watercooled cars so that they can compete
together ! is that too hard to understand ?

I still have a bug I just dont race it no more , why should I change a name I adopted 15 years ago for that reason ?
Ive entered the wife in Drag Combat so I'll be there , my S3 wont be ready Im just too busy at work to finish it . Refer to my post above why Id like
a class for both air/watercooled cars .
Im sorry to hear the Berg Trophy is dead . As a kid growing up I always wanted to build a car to contend it . If you look at all the winners you can
see it wasnt dominated by one person for too long . I think its a set of rules that challenged people to build cars that were fast and within the
rules . I dunno maybe my sense of competition is different to yours .
Craig is trying , and so have I . Ive offered $500 out of my own pocket for a drag meet and hardly anyone shows up . I cant do much more than that ,
and after years of trying I know its not going to happen . I just wish you would see it too .
Hope to see ya out at WSID , and cause Im a VW guy your happy to borrow my w/shop which is 5 min from WSID anytime

As much fun it is to hang out and look at and race nothing but VAG cars,I can honestly say nothing compares to smashing a traditional v8's etc at a
street meet or test and tune(hey frosty) it's a win win situation if they beat me they can tell all their mates that they beat the multicoloured
bug, lose to any vw that's pretty traumatic for the bogans and the turbo boys,I've even seen time slips stolen so there is no evidence! As for 11sec
fwd i'm sure the alcorns(AM HONDA CIVICS) boys could build a whole vw fwd based car for 20k,they may race hondas but many peolple don't know they
were considering building bugs but fwd drags had just started so they got in on the ground floor 10 years ago and were running 15"s now they in the
11's!Hey matty don't sell the golf lets resurect it we'll get it in the 11's it will be worth heaps more!

That's what I love, when dudes in v8 pretend to have a start problem so they don't race you, and them magically are fine for the next run.
Or when you can clearly hear on the video a guy yelling at his mate don't let him run the veedub. It's pretty cool because no one laughs at the VW
any more.
Let's stop fighting each other, support each other to make the VW scene grow and if someone thinks they can out do someone else, well they should
build a car to compete not become an expert on the internet.

Simple rules?
we should look at what we want?
I think it should be restricted to to Aspirated only.
Daily or street?
There are a few people that get confused with the two.
example...........
Cols beast is Daily
and Rod's rocket is Street.
You can NOT compare the two because they are totally different cars.
Maybe Craig we should do a poll so people can vote on what they want and majority wins?
Then if people like it they can build a car to compete?
Maybe instead of dial in's we should index them? and race them against each other.
Dave B could put his engine into a street car?
Maybe Rod P can build one of his spare engine and trannies for a streeter?
Could be cool
Did I mention it should be air cooled?
any thoughts?

Ok after spending a while going through a few threads there should be 2 classes .
First class should be an outright class .
Only rule which Id personally like is a limit on engine size . Engine size should not be double the capacity which was originally fitted to the car .
Penalty - Cant run a full slick tyre must be a street radial . Id like this kind of rule to stop say an Oval having a 3l+ size engine with Turbo .
Possibly even have another rule of engine must retain same amount of cylinders as factory ? But thats it . It should be a heads up on quickest street
car , engineered or not , NOS water meth turbo race fuel etc all allowed . Just has to be registered .
Second class should be Sports street :
Rules Id add :
Must run street radial
RTA engine rules (I cant remember what they were but something like weight x 2.2 for forced induction or weight x 3.0 for n/a ?)
car is allowed to be stripped and exhaust changed for the drags but must have all original frames / mounting points still attached .
must run pump gas
guards/decklid/bonnet/boot all open
Would also be looking to name both trophies . Find an event to run them . Warwick and Portland would be a perfect testing ground .
Cars eligable for the outright class that I know of :
Junka , Waynes Turbo Oval , Vintage Vee dub had a street car that ran 11.6 some 10 years ago ??? Aaron Roberts Kombi my S3 and Lucas's A4 . Feel free
to add to this list
Sports street
Huge field here , I wont even list how many cause 20 come to mind straight away !
Venue : Id prefer Calder park cause they seem relaxed with rules but would kinda make it unfair on the queensland guys having to drive so far . Unless
it was week after Portland maybe ?
Naming of the trophies : Im thinking someone who has been a driving force in VW circles that is no longer with us . Ken Virgin comes to mind . Im
prefering an Aussie over yank ! Ideas ?

Why no timeslip ? A lot of watercooled guys are like this . They dyno the car or find another car with similar power/build specs then claim their car
is capable of the same time without running it . Ask any real racer on here and they will tell you your not going to run your best time out of the box
, it takes months/years to perfect what youve built . The watercooled guys just dont see it that way . It seems too hard to run a time , its easier to
"say" what time it will run !

Bug racer just called me a watercooled guy
No time slip because I wouldnt race it at a meet, but I did dust a 12 sec V8 on the street that I raced at the track in my air cooler.
Bug Racer you go on with all this class crap and your car ......well just look at the Compak Attack thread
I could go on. Maybe a real racer can give me some advice.
Just go and get some practice, I'll race you at the next VW meet, I don't care about classes, there's always some grudge runs available.

Well said Nick
And in the grand scheme of drag racing in general, aircooled is the minority. I dig all volksies but for fear of sticking my neck out the water cooled
guys have plenty of water cooled makes to compete with. I'd be keen to stick with aircooled only.
