Fitting an oil cooler and remote oil filter. On the turbo outlet you can just see the exhaust gas temperature probe.

Drivers headrest fairing fitted, still needs finishing and paint. Also installed rear body leather straps, these are exact copies of the originals, they cover the Dzus fasteners for the rear and act as the secondary hold down that's required when the car is used in competition.

Found a way to get around the 180Kph speed cut on the original ECU.........bought a second hand VOS chip (locally produced performance chip) for $250. An aftermarket speed cut defender goes for about the same to $300 so it's perfect. This will remove my speed limiter, gives a more aggressive fuel and ignition map and raises the boost to 16psi from the current 11psi. The down side is that it is designed around the RS liberty engine so it will display a check engine light with an injector code. This is not a problem appart from the CEL being illuminted. I'm going to the dyno on the 3rd of July at SAS with a bunch of WRX guys so I'll post the results.

PS: found the reason for the shudder at takeoff......the 2 gearbox mounts were not tight!

Have installed the VOS chip, first had to desolder the holes in the ECU board where the small printed circuit board plugs in (VOS chip is actually a small board with five chips in it). This has to be done in a Japanese spec ECU, an Australian ECU does not need to be desoldered. I guess this works by interupting the signals from the various sensors on the engine, changing the value of the signal and then sending it off to the ECU proper. Did a quick test run this arvo and found the extra 5lbs of boost impressive. Seems to run a bit smoother as well. A surprise is that I have no engine check light up as I was expecting.
Got around the problem with the Subaru ECU tach signal out not speaking to the original tach by pulling the Subaru tacho out of the half cut and setting it in the Porsche 914 housing, still have to do a mod were the turn signal lights indicate on the face of the tacho.
Heading out to Eastern Creek on Friday for a track day, I should have the camera mounted so I'll post the vids if all goes well.
Image of 914 tacho with WRX face and internals fitted.
New shift light lower left on steering column.

Great day at the Creek. 2 different sessions #1 C3 liscence holders, Brutes, Formula Fords, Porsche Cup and the like, #2 LS2 holders like me. Some Formula Vee, club cars, street cars. Grabbed a garage for $25 which we shared with some high tech Formula Ford guys. Went out in the first lap and could have been quicker in a Zimmer frame....gave it some in the front straight and topped 125MPH in 4th shifting to 5th and then it just hit the stops, the speed cut was shutting the fuel off for some reason so spent the rest of the sessions watching the Porsches getting smaller in the rear vision mirror up to 125MPH then watching them get bigger as they passed me:cussing (have since fixed the cut problem, I didn't clip all the jumpers on the new board install so it was still running some fuctions from the standard chip)
The laps got much smoother over the day but I still have a long way to go when it comes to turning corners. I've got a few other problems that need to be addressed:
1. Still getting high temperatures after 5 laps. (got something in the cooker now so should be fixed).

2. Poor intercooler performance (read no performance) coupled with the high temperatures, jap spec ECU (likes jap fuel) is knocking the engine late in each session and the ECU is pulling boost out so as to be a bit gentle on the engine. So most of the day was at 7psi not 16:(
I'm shrouding the little stock IC and just putting a fan on it.

3. Throttle cable went tits up and stuck @ 3000 driving out of the garage. (fixed with a good quality custom throttle cable from Consolidated Wire in Milperra, cheap @ $50 for 2)
The video was OK so I'll down load and post some later.
Hillclimb this coming Sunday at Huntley (Dapto) with Chris Frazer amazer from the forum, always a great day out.
cheers

Great day at the Hunley hillclimb. New chip is giving me 16psi in 2nd and 3rd, don't know about the higher gears yet, the poor old TD04 might run out of puff. Ran some octane boost in the fuel so I had no problems with pinging I think? The higher boost is a bit savage on the traction but a lot of it is they way I drive the thing I think, I need to bring it on a bit slower......as if.
Wakefield Park this Friday for a practise day and a supersprint on Sunday there with the Porsche Club, just got a call from them this evening, it went a bit like this.....
Porsche club..... " HOW much does it weigh?
ME.... 800kgs......
Porsche Club.... "Hmmmmmm", "HOW many kWs?"
Me..... 165..:thumb don't tell em it's close to 220 @ 16 psi boost.
Porsche Club......"Hmmmmmm", that sounds like fun...see you there.

Got me some new rubber, Yokohama AO32R, thanks CT :), so I,m ready to have me some more fun.....

It's gooowwwn.
Looks like it's a head gaskets or worse. Had a good day at Wakefield Park on the Friday but looks like my overheating issues have sounded the death nell of my engine.
:(
Compression test tells the story. Only got to do 2 laps with the Porsche guys on Sunday which is s bummer. Ct and Jak were there and hammering as usual. Engines out and almost stripped but it could be rings as well so it's a race to get to Valla.
This is on the Saturday with the BMW guys. What the?

Do you have a knock sensor on this engine ? As I always thought breaking ring lands was a sure sign of pinging / knocking.....

As always, when you do something, you do it to a very high standard. What a fantastic car you have !

Yeah it was running the knock sensor, but I was not the only one driving it over the 2 days and we may not have noticed the boost reduction. When it sees pinging/detonation it reduces boost to 7psi from the 16 psi I was running.
The intake temps should be fixed this time.

Finally after fitting the Microtech L10s a few weeks ago I've been able to get to the dyno for a tune, now with 238 RW HP and a nice flat torque curve as seen with Jaks result.
So we did a 12.1 @ 116 mph on 190 HP.......what are the predictions for Wednesday night with 238?:o

Just finished an STI 2.5 engine build yesterday, using my 2.0l heads. TD05 turbo, high flowed 99 STI injectors. 1.8mm Cometic heads gaskets due to the reduced 2.0l chambers. After a low stress engine but the smallish turbo it'll be spooling up quickly but will run out of puff at the top end. Only looking for the same @ the rears but I should see a nice increase in torque. I'll let you know the dyno results.
I also repositioned the radiator to the front of the car after cutting out the molded oil cooler grill, placed the new intercooler in the old radiator position.
Some are getting over 300kw at the rear with these engines....now that's just going a bit too far.........isn't it?

What does the Spyder weigh again?? I think you would be approaching motorcycle type power to weight ratios. Cant wait to see and hear how this goes.

Hi Peter

How tall is the guy driving the sprite? He is either very tall or works for the council putting in new no standing sighns.

So is your intercooler in the front now? I was getting some advice from Ian Baker the other day and he said to be careful with the Chinese intercooler cores, they have been known to break apart and go through the motor.

Are you using the stock subi blow off valve?
