It was probably lucky that I had my 1/8 mile gearbox in there in preparation for VWMA Warwick,
and had shut of at half track and coasted through for an 11.51 @90mph.

After some discusions with varous sources, it was agreed that in my application, the distance to coil bind at .050" was too close.
Prior to this I had advice that as close as .035" would be fine, and in the other extreme, so would .150" be OK.

Anyhow, I decided to install new springs and retainers at about .080 to ,090" from coil bind at full lift,
and after inspection and some hard runs at Warwick it all looks superb.

Best at Warwick 2012 was a 6.907 @ 99.78mph, which is a little over 8200rpm in 4th gear.

Here are some links to some not so perfect runs:

Engine and tranny are all stripped down, and look great.
After this years runs, I have decided to advance the cam a little
to get some more lower rpm power,
and I also decided shorten the 1st thru 3rd gear ratios a little.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/003_zpsd8a489fe.jpg

At both Sydney (and Willowbank testing before hand,)
the car was slow out of the hole,(1.475 best sixty, but generally low 1.50's)
with the 2.90 first gear and 4.857 diff.
At Warwick i tried the same first gear,
but with a 5.428 diff and this was just a bit too far the other way, either wheelspinning or hitting the bars too hard.(best of 1.46)
I reduced the start rpm a bit and that helped,
so I have decided to try a 3.0 first gear this year and a 2.0 second, with 1.412 third.

Engine wise, I have a fresh valve job, some new Pauter Rods,
and advanced the cam, with the valve as close to the piston as I can.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/006_zps9077c9fd.jpg

I have also added 2 Raceware 3/8 " studs from the case, right thru each rocker box floor to assist the head strength with those killer springs.

Should be ready in time if I get off the internet.

Both Stanley and I ran the test and tune on Wednesday night.
I had four passes.
It is always hard to get back into the swing of driving a manual,
after driving your 'daily' which is auto, since sept last year.

The old clutch leg takes a few runs to get sorted:
11.05 @ 124.42 lazy clutch leg in 1st gear.
10.88 @ 124.89 better but still rich
10.96 @ 124.84 lazy clutch leg and ugly all thru 1st gear
10.80 @ 125.01 much better but still rich and clutch is 'not right'.
Car is 825 KG with fatter driver.(1815 lbs)

This is within 1 tenth and 1 mph of my best,
so once I have a fresh clutch and a return trip to the dyno,
it should be sweet for Sydney.

Engine and tranny came up well with no leaks and valve train in perfect order.
Just get that tune a little closer(dyno is the only way rather than wear out the whole car),
and the potential should be close.

I have decided to step up to a 200mm 3-puck from my 180mm.
The pressure plate will remain the same.

I think when it is fresh and new, the 180 works well, but is so close to its limits,
it takes one lazy foot and it wont recover.
In the past I have gotten 40 to 50 passes on the 180mm discs,
but this time it is only about 20, and it needed re-shimming in that time.

Just need to get this poor weather past and then get to the dyno before Sydney.
It is pretty close at the moment, tune-wise,
but it would be best if i can to make sure i know HOW close I am.

This good example of why you should get to a dyno.
As run, at 1815lbs it ran 10.80 @ 125 mph,
and it had a rich 235hp at the wheels...and i thought I was close
Leaned it off and it made 248.8hp (close to last time 250).
Then, found we had a torched plug, when trying fresh set with wide gaps...no good, too much gap, above 7000.

Closed up the gap and made 259 @ 7800. bring on Sydney!

There were numerous small changes to get the extra power,
particularly the gains below the power peak,
but the removal of my side shields was an immediate 7.9hp above 7000.

I will have to use them at Warwick with the air cleaners,
but I think they can stay in the cupboard for Sydney.

Brennden, I was not aware that 100hp per litre at the wheels was magical.
FW 100hp per litre is a good start, but 150hp/lt would be excellent,
and our Aussie pro stocker V8s make over 200hp per litre.

To achieve 100hp per litre is something only a few manufacturers ever reach in a production car. But you've nearly reached 100hp per litre at the wheels which is better again which is what I meant.

So the boxes around the intakes caused a definite disturbance in air flow causing mixtures to be too rich? Am I reading that correctly?

Jetting was the same.

My guess is that it was probably obstructed air flow or advantage-pulse damping
because it was only above 7000rpm where the gains came.

It could have been some obscure obstruction to the ideal pulse frequency,
but that is likely complicating simple things.

Unfortunately when the torched plug was found
it negated knowing any specific individual change gains,
but the end result was a combination of things.

You can do all the maths you want from the wheel number to calculate a FW hp or MPH,
but in the end, I will have to wait to run some times at the track to confirm
if I need to turn up the rev limiter for the end of the 1/4 mile.
