Yeah for sure!

The bodies is very mixed! It is a 57 body from the rear apron to the front of the front doors and a 1500 front. It has late model wiper motor and the little humps where the wipers pivert. The doors are late model brizzian doors with the small window but late model locks and the lachs where welded into the pillars. it all so has a late model rear apron.

And a 69 semi auto chassis coverted to maunal.

its for the computer. +10% means richer over the full rev range and -10% means leaner over the full rev range. i use it at the moment coz the cold start is way to rich.

I have a simular issue. A vw's enrichment is tricky to setup. If you base it entirely on engine temp from the crankcase the enrichment will happen too long. Especially considering that I have 6lt of oil capacity to heat up. This means it runs rich for too long until the engine's at temperature. I ran my 1641 turbo this way.

If you use a head temp sensor for enrichment its a little better, butif the engine has run up to temperature and then cools to 1/2 temp and starts again, the computer thinks its hotter than it really is so it will run lean. My 2332 turbo is setup this way.

The compromise is to get two sensors to control additional enrichment, but all engine management i've seen uses only one sensor for fuel adjustment based on the coolant temp. A mate over seas wired two sensors in parallel with some sort of fudge it circuit in the middle to fool the efi system into controlling enrichment better. This works but the coolant sensor also tells the ECU when to switch on fans and coolant pumps so that adds an other issue.

Drivavility is the reason to run EFI, plus its the ONLY way to be able to run and tune a turbo system reliably. I can drive at 1000 RPM in 4th gear and floor it and the engine doesn't falter. It just pulls evenly. Carbs that rely on air speed to vaporise fuel can't deal with this at all. Even with the most radical of drag cams an EFI engine will still idle smoothly and run steadily at low engine speeds.

Iswinkels,

I have been following a thread on a US based EFI site, the following may help with your sensor location:

Wide Open Tours has a fleet of 30+ VW Type-4 powered buggies. They use my ECU-422C-1. They run three tours a week at 500 miles each. The upgrade from the Weber carb has been a great success with the fuel consumption being lowered by 35%. They also use a DIS system, without a " cap and rotor " the rain, mud, dirt never stops the cars.
The best place for the CLT temp sensor I have found is in the valve cover, near an exhaust valve spring. The readings of the engines (CLT) temp are then very close to a water cooled engine.
The next main event for them is the Baja 1000 with many stars as thier drivers.

Cheers Paul

hey guys

I have seen on some heads a tab that is there for head temp or in our case for the cold start warm up sensor. Im thinking of changing to this soon, but i might run a thermostat on the oil lines to increase the warm up time instead.
