Is that wreckers outside Cooma (Near the airport from memory) still there?
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, and in good condition- but rather tossed in sideways - Beer in one
hand - chocolate in the other - body totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride"

guards and bonnet
Started hanging the guards and doing repairs.
I didn't have a pair of good front guards so i've made one good one of two.
I'll post pictures soon.
I'm going to get all four guards and doors and deck lid acid dipped.
I have had to do a bit of work on the front passenger side with the bonnet on as the gap was not even. This was due to the hit that it had taken at
some stage during its life.

more pics please - it'll be a shame to paint it as it looks so
good in bare metal
Price wise, how does acid dipping compare to media blasting?

On acid
All the hang on panels have now been acid dipped.
This beats hours of sanding and mess.
I had a few panels to pick from and these are the best ones with the least work.

After lots of hunting I ended up with a good pair of rear guards.
They have a few splits and repairs to be done but they also will file up good.

Nice stuff Nathan - what is the prep work from here with the acid dipping? Any concerns the residue will be hiding in seams/nooks/crannies etc?
Forgive my ignorance, I've only had experience with blasting to date.

best of both cars
The front guards have had the same treatment.
The passenger side guard is made of two guards, as i couldn't find a good one with minimum work to be done.
if you look at the pictures you will note the join.
The biggest problem is finding guards with good edges that don't have kinks etc.
Both guards have been beaten and file finished.
As you will notice the car body has been coated in a primer as to keep ahead of the surface rust starting.

Decked out
Here is a shot of the other guard.
The decklid has also be dipped.
I thought this panel was rust free but found a small pin hole.
This will be drilled and welded, and then treated in behind the outer skin. POR 15
As you can see with the last shot the surface has been clean and the filing has begun.
This panel is also very good with only a few dents to be tapped and filed.

Panels need to be washed down with scotch pads etc
This takes a bit of time and care, still it removes paint and rust so its worth it.
Here's a good read for you.

Hanging doors
The drivers side door is hung and it only needed a little work.
It had three holes to be welded up.
Two where from a pull handle fitted to the interior and a side mirror from a late model beetle fitted to the outside.
The passenger door is not on yet, as I found that one of the screw plates that allow the door to be screwed too has fallen out!
These are just held in with a center tab and due to the body been flipped around on the work frame it must have fallen out.
So i've been hunting though boxes of bits today looking for another. LOL
Lucky I have a few put away, this is what they are.........

Is it acid or alkaline? Mine was dipped but it is alkaline and then they blast it off with a hi pressure water gun and then heat up the car to dry it
and then prime it.
I had the whole body done and all hanging parts. My new turbo body is going off to be soda blasted in a few weeks. So many options all with + &
–.

Its all put though a few baths, but in the end you still need to wash the panels down and then heat them up to dry out like doors etc, then hit with
primer.
As for the doors i'll post pictures later of how to do all the insides etc.

primed and hung
All the hang on panels are now finished.
They have all been hung and checking gaps etc.
The rear deck lid need a bit more work as the top edges don't line up real well but this could be part due to the fact one on the hinge mounts I have
used is a bit knocked about.

hung
All these panel will be rubbed back later when I'm read for paint.
But in the mean time i want to check it all over.
Fit gauges, drill holes and mount brackets etc etc.
holes for pop-outs also as this saves drilling into fresh paint and finding things don't fit at the last minute.

Its really starting to look like a car now.
Still not sure on a colour etc and are having second thoughts on my motor plan.
I have a few ideas in the pipline but i'm starting to think 36hp is a good look.
Still haven't touched the floor pan for a while so I ight send a few days knocking out some dents and welding up the rust around the battery tray.

36 hp here we come!
Well after a lot of thought I've decided to go with all 36hp running gear.
I did have a turbo motor ready to be bolted together but after all the effort so far I thought the look of the 36hp would suit the car.
I want the 50's early 60's look so It's time to start scratching up some stuff to build a motor.
As the body was ready to start fitting up all the plumbing etc for the turbo eg welding on brackets drilling holes dummy assemble of engine in engine
bay.
Now with a change of plans the body is ready to paint.
I just need to rub back the body and start prep for paint.
I'll be working on the floor pan again soon and sorting out the running gear.
Will dig out some tinware and get ready for powder coating.

judson supercharger
Well here we go, if going to have a 36hp motor its got to have a bit more power and suit the look i want.
Most would know what this is but those who don't its a small supercharger made buy judson.
This unit is for 36hp motors.
its not all pictured here and needs a bit of work.

Coil
The coil has not been touched yet, but it can only really be polished up.
The decal on this is still very good for its age and will stay.
These coils work on 6volt and 12 volt which is good as I'm going to be running 12volt.
