hey man, yeah im planning to pull the engine and box on Monday as I have just quit my job so have the whole week off to do it!
I just got some new tyres on the front yesterday which I'm really happy with. They are Kumho KH11 Ecsta 155/60R15 - got them from Brendon at F1 Wheel
and Tyre on the Gold Coast for $119 each if anyone wants some. They are loads better than the 135's with more rubber on the bitumen and smaller
profile so no rubbing and look sweet!
will get some pics

Nice work mate!
Sorry to keep busting your chops on the short axle thing, but I'm hoping you will work the kinks out for me, so I can do it easily Please load as many photos as possible etc....
So what axles are you planning on using....sorry if I missed it in an earlier post or something....I just want to know what I need to be on the
lookout for my project Notch.
Pulled the seats and carpet out last weekend, and guess what I saw???......the driveway!!! major rust in the rear footwells, bit bummed about it really....but all the more incentive to pull it apart and do a
proper job
So, quit your job eh?? whats up with that? Not happy? do you have another one to go to? Hope so mate, otherwise you won't have any cash to spend
on the square!

Hi Izac,

Yeah those centre caps don;t fit the BRM's without a spacer - so not planning to use them. Just gonna roll without caps, adds to the rat look me
thinks
Where abouts are you mate? You can have if you want em.
Only parts I need at the moment are the short axles and tubes.
Cheers

Scarab, yeah mate quit my job and am going to be studying for next 6 months so hopefully will get Youth Allowance and still have a bit to spend on the
old girl.
Planning to use axles and tubes out of a pre 67 ? beetle which had the short ones.
Yeah mate I found a whole lotta bitumen staring up at me when I pulled the carpet to! sounds like its time for some new metal to weld in (see page 1 of this thread for pics of pan - cleaned up alright though).

Well done on the course mate....should be a great experience for you! I have heard of YWAM through our church here in Adelaide, they do some great
work! We had some young fellas from our youth group go over to Kenya recently and help out in orphanages and that type of thing......they said it
really had a massive impact on their lives, and made them appreciate the things that we take for granted in our country.....i think we all could be
reminded of how blessed we are here!
I would be really interested to hear what is involved with your course and how it all goes for you mate.
All the best!
PS: Get cracking on those axles bro!

have to get those axles done before that and have a youth camp coming up in a week and a bit, so really have to get it all knocked over this week.
writing up the 'to-do' list right now!

Mate, I just had a look in the Type 3 workshop manual I have, but unfortunately....no pictures of what this shift rod coupling looks like. Sorry
A small suggestion for you....get someone to operate the gearlever for you from inside the car while you are watching at the back, this would surely
give you an idea of what you are looking for when you see something moving at the transmission end. (I guess that this would be the case, but as I
haven't actually done it or seen it done as yet, I am only guessing).
Hope it goes OK for you mate

thanks man. i ended up finding it this morning - its just at the front of the transmission in the area near where the frame horns join.
trans is out finally! only took me 3 hours!!
now to get those short axles and tubes and get everything machined.
cheers

I did go and help yesterday. lots of stuff got done, lots of stuff went wrong. I took a few photos, and i may get them up tonight. maybe.
Izac had got the new axles in and the rear hubs back on. His drums were off for machining.
should be done by the end of next week I think. just a few things to
hook back up (clutch cable, throttle cable, throttle linkage, hand brake line, rear brake line, engine bay eletrical, breather lines, fuel lines +
CLAMPSSSS!!!!) , and a few leaks to fix...... woooo.
The new tires look sick on the front, And I think I have changed my mind back to BRM's...

hahaha.....BRMs seem to be able to grab you I reckon. I have seen a set of full polished ones and now I WANT them BADLY for my Notch!!
Keep up the good work guys.....the fiddly things always seem to add up when putting things back together, just knock em off one by one and they'll be
done in no time.

yeah we had gearbox oil leaking everywhere out of the ends of the axles tubes so I must not have put the seals in right.
went to pull backing plates off to have a look what was going on and the O-ring seal was broken, so have to get some new seal sets, learn how to
install it properly and try again.

Not sure if it's the same for the beetle, but I used Daves guide in the latest VWMA to put all the seals and o-rings on my axles.
