Yeah totally disagree with that statement too Stanley. VW's will never die out because those who have a pure passion for them will get them regardless of how hard they have to work or wait to have one. Some peopel have to wait all there life to get that dream car they've always wanted.

I'm not an "Old Fart", and have had nothing but help and good advice from those with VW and life experience. The truth can be hard to swallow sometimes but i would never say that the more "experienced" vdubbers out there don't give a shit, they're just realistic in life's expectations.

sorry to hear of your frustration Jason, I do truly feel for you!....it is sometimes very hard to be passionate about something, but then not have the funds to feed that passion the way you would ideally like to. I really admire the passion you have for all things VW!

please don't take peoples suggestions as 'knocks' or 'digs' at you or your situation.....after reading through the comments listed above, there is some real wisdom being put out there for you, if you are willing to grab a hold of it and run with it.

I don't think I would be wrong in saying that 99% of the people on here have been in similar situations as yourself at the moment....I know I definitely have been, and I still seem to go through the financially lean times quite regularly! Unfortunately it is often hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel sometimes.....but keep chugging away and the light will definitely appear.....eventually. (maybe that light is the glow of the Golden Maccas arches as per Mick's suggestion )

That being said, I am sad that I am in no way able to assist you with working on your car as I am so far away, or even with donations of parts etc. as I have nothing here to suit a beetle, but hang in there bro, you WILL get there!! While you might feel that no-one is willing to help etc. I don't think it is the willingness of people that is a problem, it is often the distance or the time involved that stops people lending a hand when we all have such busy lives these days. At least you have a core of people on here to give you suggestions of ways that you might be able to get your bug back on track. I know it is little consolation, but it is something to keep in mind none the less mate :)

Hope you get on OK mate, and feel free to contact me anytime, happy to chat anytime bro....PM me if you like :tu:

All the best

Thanks Paul.

Not that I really need to explain this, but I thought I would.

I currently have two jobs, however due to my age I recieve VERY limited hours. I could get a full time position, but then I am unable to have time off to volunteer for things like Red Frogs and Camps (SU Qld..), which makes things hard - And I do feel my priorities are right, I pay to volunteer for things like camps and stuff. My car does come second and is not the center of my life. its a passion, and my car to get around in (because its cool!)
It will get fixed eventually.. but for now is under covers in the garage.

good on ya mate, and well done for trying to put back into the community too with your volunteering!

thanks for explaining further, it puts things into perspective knowing that you are already working two jobs AND doing volunteer work....it is suprising that you still have time for a hobby like your bug.

well done mate, keep up the good work.....you will get there in the end!

hi mustard

you have stated many times that you dont have the money for the parts at this stage for your bug thats fair enough i can understand that. this is just a suggestion, while you have the car parked under cover why dont you jack the front end up on stands pull the whole front end out inspect every part and clean it and write down what you need, get under the car with some rags and a tin of petrol and get it looking clean. at least you can learn how it all goes together and you will be ready for when you buy the parts. once that is done move onto another part of the car.

Dear 76bug.

This is a very good suggestion, and I do plan to do this in the next few weeks, as well as clean up some surface rust, etc. :) A very good suggestion indeed.

Yeah - excellent idea - a clean car is always MUCH nicer to turn spanners on, though best you use degreaser or even kero rather than petrol (safety).

You may even be lucky and find not quite as much stuff needs immediate replacement as you thought (like those tie rod ends).

Good point Sides, when I stripped and cleaned my L bug I found some parts serviceable and so were put back, being a pensioner my budget is limited, just takes a bit longer, safety first and do the best with the resources you have. I have learnt heaps and for a do-it-yourselfer doing up a VW beetle the resources on this forum and the net in general are enormous, there is nothing you can't get information about, a lot more than any other car! good luck with it Colonel Mustard! always good to read your posts:tu:

Doing more painting currently, good sun today! Might actually dry properly. the matt black on the tail light surrounds had to be redone, im re-sanding them now.

Joel, there was white under that light blue, and dark blue under the white...... fun. lots of 360 grade paper going into those this morning. Camera battery is currently dead, get some pics up late tonight.

I thought I'd have a crack at a picture of my bug in the style of your signature. A few minutes in photoshop later and this is the result. As you can see, I've got some paintin to do as well.

Keep up the posts.
