i went and spoke to my mate today who does pinks and blueys to get his take on it and hes said basically what i already suspected
theyre given a book with specs for the standard distance from the center of the hub to the top of the wheel arch and it has to be within 50mm of this measurement

like i thought it doesnt go as far back as aircooled vws so unless there blantantly lowered will mostly go unnoticed

Hi

I was looking at my 1303 owners manual today. It lists width etc, it says the height of an unladen 1303 is 1500 mm, mines way under that.

recieved this response today.........::yes:

Thank you for your recent email in relation to the NSW Labor Government’s changes to regulations relating to the lowering and raising of motor vehicles.

I have forwarded a copy of your correspondence on to NSW Nationals Leader and Shadow Minister for Roads, Mr Andrew Stoner MP, for his consideration.

The NSW Liberals and Nationals oppose these changes, which have been introduced by the Rees Labor Government without consultation or any debate in the NSW Parliament.

The NSW Liberals and Nationals have called upon the Minister for Roads to withdraw the policy and will continue to pursue this issue on behalf of NSW motorists when Parliament resumes in September.

Yours sincerely

naive. the opposition will always say what you want to here. Easiest thing to do in the world is sit there and say the opposite to the guy with bigger hat. Turnbull seems to be the only one having difficulty with that.

The press release.

NSW MINISTER FOR ROADS MICHAEL DALEY MP
N E W S R E L E A S E

MINISTER AGREES TO FURTHER CONSULTATION ON CAR MODIFICATION LAWS
Wednesday 29 July 2009

Minister for Roads Michael Daley today met with representatives from the 4WD communityand car industry who asked for the introduction of proposed vehicle modification rules to be delayed and for more time to consult.

Mr Daley said he agreed to put the rule changes on hold and that more consultation was needed following the meeting.

Ive listened to feedback from the industry and the community, and have agreed to set up a working party to look more closely at how we are going to address this road safety issue, he said.

All of those who attended todays meeting agreed that safety is paramount and that unsafe modifications of vehicles do need be stamped out.

The working group will include representatives from the NSW Centre for Road Safety,

Four Wheel Drive NSW-ACT, Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association, the Australian 4WD Industry Council as well as other agencies and experts, Mr Daley said.

Executive Director of Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association Stuart Charity said this was a terrific outcome.

Were passionate about road safety and we understand the intent of the regulation is to make the roads safer he said.

Were looking forward to working towards a practical solution that meets road safety objectives while also taking industry views into account, Mr Charity said.

Greg Redfern from Four Wheel Drive NSW-ACT also welcomed the outcome and said the working group would have their full support.

We want to eliminate unsafe practices in the driving community and well work with the government to make sure these new regulations meet those objectives without any adverse consequences for the motoring community at large, he said.

We all agree that there is no place for extreme and illegal modifications, but the clubs in our association follow a strict code of conduct and ethics, and we want to make sure theyre not punished, Mr Redfern said.

Thank you for your email in regards to the Rees Labor Government's new vehicle suspension regulations.

As you may be aware, the Rees Government has recently backflipped on their harsh new vehicle modification laws, following pressure from the community and the media.

According to Labor Roads Minister Michael Daley, the new regulations will now be put 'on hold' to allow more time for consultation.

This is not good enough.

We are calling on the Minister Daley to rule out these changes indefinitely.

The fight is not over. Please take a minute to sign our online petition at http://www.nothoons.com.au  and help fight these out of touch new rules.

Yours sincerely

all the rules for car mods in Oz seem a bit wierd, if they REALLY want to cut down on hoon deaths etc restrict engine size for P platers and leave the sensible guys alone!

It's a case of a NON-Car enthusiast making laws on something they know nothing about......

If these pollies actually gave a stuff about road deaths, then they would target the clowns head on and not penalize those that do the right thing.
Also they should spend our taxes on making safer roads for us to drive on!!.....

Why do we need safer roads to drive on, while I agree that good roads are nice to have, if you are going to drive across a padock then you drive to suit the condition of the padock, ie drive to suit the condition of the road your on, the road doesn't cause the problem it's the way we drive on the particular road.

As an observer in the US I am just astounded by this example of governmental meddling. Here in California there is no such thing as going to an engineer to have a suspension modification (or anything else) approved and there's no carnage occurring on our highways due to suspension modifications.

OTOH, Cali is draconian about engine and exhaust mods (as in, "can't do any at all") unless your vehicle is '74 or older. Even then you are just exempt from inspection, not from maintaining the stock configuration.

if your bush bashing in a 4wd then your right, but if you're in your own paddock then you don't have to comply with any law...
My point was that if the pollies actually gave a stuff about making things safer, then they would make things right for the public and fix them.....instead of coming up with ridiculous laws that don't benefit anyone..

Hi

I received a letter from Barry O'Farrel today responding to my email.

I also got this back from my local member.

"Dear Steve,

Thank you for your email. Following concerns expressed by many people in the community about the nature & extent of the proposed changes the Minister has decided to delay their introduction pending further investigation and community consultation. I will refer your concerns to the Minister and provide you with a copy of his response when received.

i also go this....

Dear Sir
The minister recently met with representatives from the 4WD community and the after-market motor industry and agreed to delay the start of the new vehicle modification rules and carry out further consultation with stakeholders.
The NSW Centre for Road Safety has set up a working group of industry and community representatives to come up with the best way of ensuring vehicle modifications are as safe as possible – without unreasonably impacting people such as yourself.
Your comments were passed on to the working group but if you wish to provide further feedback for consideration, please email it to: office@daley.minister.nsw.gov.au

Best wishes,

Dan Leavy
Principal Policy Manager, Light Vehicles
Centre for Road Safety

OK so my car is a fair way before this. I don't understand how they think this is going to stop suspension related accidents. To get an engineers certificate as the system is the car has to be road worthy. The people getting around with chopped springs and the like aren't getting engineers certificates as it is so how is this going to change under the new rules? They are punishing the people who have lowered or raised their car the right way.
