NEVER GONNA STOP, NEVER GONNA GIVE UP
Slowly Getting the VW Love back pumping thru my veins.
This is where we are at. Got the engine out and striped down to long block stage. Still don't know the cause of no compression and cylinder head
problems.

Hi Dylan
Gotta admire your hard word and dedication mate. Must be great knowing that you are doing all this pretty much yourself. Hope to see you up around my
way some day giving the car a good run.

Dylan save your back mate and get it up on a 20 litre drum or if you have a solid bench i have an engine stand that will mount in a vice or bolt to
the bench that you can have a loan of. good to see you motivated again.

Hi Dylan
Its hard to tell from the photos but look for any point were the metal to metal seal between the barrels and heads has leaked.
Were all the head nuts tight?

first pic looks like a crack between spark plug & valve seat so probably losing compression there, also looks like cylinders might not be 100%
seated in the cylinder heads, so losing a bit more there as well.
other pictures look like youve got a major rusty bore, so i'd guess sweet FA compression there.

Bolts Were All Tight, Heads Were Re-Tourqued at Last Major Service.
Yes theres a Crack in the spark plug thread, valves look okay to me but idn what to look for there.
Also there tiny bit of rust on number 1 but i scratched off easy as and motor cranks over fine.

That #1/2 head has been loose, you can see where its been blowing the compression out.
Fairly typical of those early twinport 10mm stud engines.
it may be pulling the threads in the case.

Check the barrel surface too where the piston rings slide up and down. It shouldn't be a shiny mirror surface unless worn. Another loss of
compression Rehone and rings and all sorted.

Put some petrol on in the combustion chamber of the head and if drains back out through the port you will know if you valve seats are knackered

Thanks Guys!
Will Try All Those Things Suggested.
Joel,
From memory they were all tight but quite a few of them were sized and even with WD40 and other simmilar sprays, the bolts wouldnt come off and the
head stuff came screwing out all together

Good Luck At Last
Good Luck At Last!
Picked up this old block above for $150 and Les Barlin from Taree kindly helped me put it together and attempt a ground start up by bolting up the
motor on the ground to a bellhousing with a starter motor on it to test out the motor.
The Motor was oily, dusy, dirty and even has some dust and crap in the inlet manifolds but we bolted everything on and bolted the motor up and it
kicked over and started up in just a few seconds and ran well, compression test showed healthy compression.
Just going to put a new gasket kit through it then ill be all good to put it in the car and do a test
drive on the new block.
Big big Thank you goes out to everyone who has encouraged me and helped me along with this project that almost has fell thru is now going stronger and
better then ever.

Thanks to The Help of a Good ole' Mate Jeff
Walsh My Engine is now in the car and going great!
Now back to other problems to work towards rego.
Still alot to do for rego because of stupid rules and regs.
The old bug will get there though.
In 2 Weeks Time will be moving out Bush and will not have internet or even much phone service. so unfortunatly you wont see many updates on this
thread and i won't be on here much.
You'll have to just wait and see it on the road out and about.
If you see me around come up and say hey and have a yarn.
If you can't catch me on 0434631449 then Send me a text on the number as i will get texts but may not be able to receive calls.
