Yeah the Sprite has a crazy cage, I think it used to do giants curcuit racing? I've heard that said about the cheapie coolers but I'm yet to read about a failure, there have been a shite load sold by various rexnet and rslibertyclub memebers and a few are running very high boost through them, I think it might be a case of cheap = shite by the MRTs of this world. Mind you the welding isn't that pretty and I put an extra weld the top support plate ( I convinced work we needed a new $5000 TIG). I now run the radiator at the front of the car, I cut out the cooler grill that is molded in the front. The intercooler now sits in front of the engine where the radiator used to sit with a couple of 8" fans.
I'm still using the stock Liberty FWD gearbox with Kaaz LSD fitted. Another option would be a WRX box with the center diff removed, a splined sleeve over were the diff usually sits and then fit the FWD rear housing. This would give you a slightly stronger box. Or fit aftermarket gearset but youre looking at about $5-6000 I think!!!
The BOV is a standard WRX unit I think, the guys that did my cooler piping (did the alloy piping, gave me the silicon joiner and BOV for $300!) didn't think much of the standrd BOV so they made a mount and gave me this one off a later WRX.
How's the projects going Steve and Neil?

Hi Peter

Its getting there, the hardest part is measuring air so to speak and making sure the trans is centered and has the correct amount of tilt. I found a useful idea the other day, I strapped a fence post bubble guage to my torsion bar tube so that I can make sure the car is level before doing anything critical.

Ive made a extra chassis fork bracing, some of which you can see in this picture. You can also see how far Ive moved the G50 forward, 100 mm.

hows mine going ?

well Pete the MISTRES trike is done as of dec 05 .I am only going to add a second set of tail lights to the outer gaurds on the rear and thats about it .

As for my other projects , the liberty wagon has seen some hight due to a 75mm body lift > rs turbo conversion 2&1/2" system to the rear and a heap of other bits to keep it together & make it go fast when it on/off the road.I post some photos of it at a later date

I have been collecting Subaru bits along the way for my new project .I have the following todate

94 wrx motor
rs legacy ecu & harness >ecu has seen some mods as it out of a world rally car .
VF10 turbo

& been building my three speed auto up to take 200hp .At this point it will be a manual shift with lock out reverse & a LSD center possably from a Subaru ( as I have one )
I am going to give the auto a go to see if I can blow it up .If it does its getting a manual box .

cheers neil

sorry to jump in here Pete , Steve not sure on how you going to do your gear box mounts , but this is how I do mine on all my custom rides .

The hollow tube is made from 4140 # 80 machined out , I have used toyota 75 series land cruser spring bushes , inside of this I have inserted a another tube that is 0.50mm longer than the larger tube to allow for crush when a bolt is put through it and pulled up .

I made some mount for maxes V8 toyota and to date they have not failed .The set up he is from the mistres trike frame .
I have the same at the all three points on the frame for the gear box & two for the motor .

Just thought I would share , neil

Hi

Sorry jump in your post Peter.

Neil, Im going to use the stock G50 alloy mount at the front, a Berg style mount midway along the box, but across the top and Im going to make up a mount that will use the stock EJ mounts at the rear. The tube steel jig in the picture is only being used to help me get the box in the correct location, Ive also raised the box 25 mm, hopefully I can get away with a stock sump. I will do a more detailed post soon.

Steve
