I was hopeing to see you run at Warwick...perhaps you can put that
Type Four in something else?
How did the new cooling system go on the long trip to Nambucca?

thanks for all the good times.! and best luck with the new venture. Now please let ME know when the Ghia is in line for selling ... I want it.

Hey Dave, I too was wishing I could run it at Warwick, but I'll still be there in a volksie of some sort (may just be a little slow!). I'll give more details once the handover takes place (as part of the sale is another VW). Re. the DTM cooling system I am well impressed with its function - before it was pushing 220F at times but now it doesn't get over 190F which is comforting!

Cheers Dean, thanks for the kind words. The buyer has handed over the cheque already so no turning back now :P

I never really thought about selling it until the buyer approached me. We can do with the cash right now whilst establishing my business (Pacific Hearing - at Westfield shopping centre, Helensvale).....plug plug. So it was just good timing and a win-win for both of us.

Cheers kkk.....I see the rag as a learning experience - although not every resto I do will be to its extent, it was an opportunity to make the next "full resto" even better with the things I've learned along the way. :starhit:

At least the majority of the VW community will always remember it as your car. But i suppose its all part of a bigger plan. Though i would find it tough to part with a car of that quaility without something better in the pipeline.......

The engine exchange continued today - the type IV was pulled out as in pic 1....and mostly disassembled in readiness for whatever it will end up in next...

The 1916 was prepared on the stand then dropped onto the jack before being slotted into place. Tomorrow hopefully the carbs will go on and maybe linkage....but we'll see how time goes!

The serpentine pulley system is really nice, I think I'll run one next time I have a type I engine!

Well Alan, you've surprised me with the sale, but I think that your skills have been well documented on this thread, and quite frankly, would've been a shame to stop at one car.

If nothing else, you've earnt mile deep respect and a lot of friends through admiration. Congrats and respect...

alan. if you get a chance before its handed over to drive it with the 1916 would you be able to let me know how it goes compared to the 2litre t4?

is the 1916 a 'hipo' spec motor?

Nah, 1916 is definitely not hi-po - standard 1600 heads with minimal if any port work, very mild cam....essentially a 1600 with bigger p&c's. I think it should still be fun whilst being nice and reliable. Will report back once I get it going.

That typ4 wouldn't be getting a lumpy cam, big ol heads and some EFI before going in a certain split would it. hint hint. ;)

BTW, Shame to see the ragtop go, but I understand and it makes financial sense. Besides, you can't sit still long enough to leave things alone, so better to sell it and invest in another restoration before you pull it apart again and sink more money into it.

Nah Pete, the type IV will probably end up in another "project" which I won't divulge just yet. I have an engine already for the split - not VW or porsche but still aircooled (pretty easy to figure out from those clues I'd imagine!).

That's right Dave, you are correct....there is nothing wrong with that! :P Gotta be a little different! (but who knows, plans might change by the time I get around to installing an engine into the splitty!)

Bill Fisher, who wrote "How to Hotrod VW Engines" back in '69,
also wrote one for the "Nader's Nightmare".
Huge potential, if you have access to the parts.
