...a big screen makes a lot of difference 4 sure kafer....I notice d differnce if I use a smaller one and have 2 scroll across d page.....u forget until u use a smaller screen

Rob d deal is pay $52 4 your first year... $37 2 renew after that....is you don't let membership lapse longer than 6 months.... You get 2 stay at hostels at a cheaper rate....and get really good discounts on other things such as tours/trips...almost 1/2 price on a lot of them...

It's a great way to travel and you meet really interesting people and get to mix with them if you want...not only 4 single travelers...u can get double n family rooms......share kitchen facilities and common rooms...that's where you get 2 meet people...it's fun..standards have improved so much and open 2 any age now... Here's the Australian site...u can join at any hostel...n don't have 2 b a member 2 stay at them...just pay a few dollars more a night....

When Fleur and I travelled around the world we used a lot of HI hostels. I am a life member - a present Mum gave me when I turned 18. Fleur joined up.

Yeah we met some interesting people and stayed in some really nice hostels and the standard at HI was very good. In London we opted for a much cheaper hostel and it was really run down and skanky. In the heart of town though.

Hey Pete...so d trip was good?

HI aren't in every town and there other good hostels/backpackers about...but it is good to be a member...they have lot's of benefits besides hostelling n travel...their activity groups r popular as well...like bushwalking ....tennis...canoeing..sailing...etc...lot's of like minded people

I've been a member for nearly 30 years...d kids travelled with us ...and are now travelling on thir own as members ...

It's a life style choice...good to mix n match...motel/hotel if u want privacy and space n pampering at times...or camping out in the bush for total escape

Hey Guys,

How it all. This thrad has been too daunting to break into. 67 pages. Does it have a purpose. Some sorta record attempt or somthing. I remember when I was here a couple of months ago there was a thread similar to this which seemed to be just chat, crap and more chat.

Anyhow - carry on. Will try to join in and follow along if I can.

see jenz this is what my parents did...paid $52 for a yha membership.

I got my yha membership over here for 12pounds....30aussie dollars. that is the standard price. you just pay 2pounds extra for the 1st 6 nights at yha hostels and then you get the discount price.

i used my yha/hostelling international (yes it is both!) in england, ireland, germany, austria, california, oregon, and i haven't run into any trouble at all.!!!!

zac I work 4 them...sell memberships all d time...you do get them cheaper overseas...same benefits but it is not a renewable membership....so if you come home you have to get a new one if you want to continue as a member after the 12 months....

We get lots of overseas visitors drop in to take out a 12 month membership...they usually hear about it from other travellers...they get good deals on the domestic tours they want here and lots of other stuff

Backpacker Auto Sales here in Melbourne got their first sale as a YHA discount provider 4 us last week...only a week after our new brochure went out advertising them

Most people who are travelling overseas only want it for that anyway...or we have people who rejoin every time they go away...they use the mebership to get discounts on their travel arrangments, travel insurance, Lonely Planet books, travel accessories like locks, money belts etc

It's all part of the same organisation...YHA Australia, NSW or VIC and HI...just each country n state administers their own stuff....

Hey Bronze welcome to our thread....it's pretty long now...we are a dedicated lot here...

There is another thread which is way longer than our's now but doesn't have d quality of content we have:thumb

Rob we didn't see a radio like you wanted at the swap meet either...Mandie and I were looking...lot's of radios but all later types n not as nice

So are you back at school this week?

HI Jenz
Thanks for the info!
Bronze
I started this thread so a few regular PPL could keep in touch with each other. Three of us have resto's in progress and we like to see whats happening. Some of us have actually caught up with each other, when passing through on interstate trips, so you could say we are an internet family!

Hey Bronze i was reading your thread on geocaching sounds pretty cool. I'd give it ago only I don't have a GPS.

You guys missed a great airshow on the weekend although i saw it on friday without the crowds. I guess working on a base has got to have some advantages.

Yeah - Well I guess mine is far from a resto unless you consider it being restored to the Baja it was when I bought it. Going for the blank canvas look at the moment. It's coming along well. All my Dubbo mates called around today to see how it progressing, needless to say it didn't progress my today.

Yeah Geocaching is cool. Ask around and see if anyone has a GPS. Usually fishermen or gadget men buy then, have a play and then don't know what to do with it so file / drawer them until they get found a year or three later. Chances are you'd know someone who has one.

Anyhow - thanks for the welcome. I'll stop in now and then and say G'day.
