hi everyone,

finally took the square out for a drive on Friday - it's been a couple of years since I drove a manual and I was freaking out a bit, but lucky tims so calm & collected and it was all good. Goes well and only a few things I want to do to it to get it perfect.

Ducky - how's the job hunting going?
Coop Girl - how's the pregnancy going?
$2 - How's the gerbil website going?

Ciao,

Jeepers, we made it to two thousand!

Does anyone here happen to know about Solex bus carbies? My bus played up again today. Sometimes she's just sulky, other times has a full on hissy fit and will barely go in second. Today it was a mega-hissy fit. So I pulled over, and as I had cleverly put my tools in the back, I thought I'd have a quick look at the carbies. Well, I took the top off each one, and saw that the left one (over cylinders three and four right?) had much less fuel in it than the one on the right (without the idle circuit stuff). So I siphoned some fuel from the tank, poured it into the float bowl, put everything back together, and voila! She drove like a dream, accelerating smartly and everything. What a joy.

Now the thing is, I'm not quite sure what's going on. Surely the level in the float bowl would drop and the problem would happen again quite soon if indeed there was a problem there, say with the float (which does still float). She drove home the whole way perfectly. I was really happy for a while as I thought that I had solved this year-old problem, but thinking about it, I'm not convinced just yet. I mean, I don't mind the 'slowness' of a kombi, but 40k/hour is just a little excessive! (And I'm sure it can't be healthy for her).

Before I score the award for the thread's longest single post, I'd better wrap it up. Does anyone have any ideas?

In other news... I also got VicRoads to update the rego, so I can now legally carry eight people! Yay!

Hope all's well with everyone. Welcome back barls, have a good break?

Hey Barlster! There was a nice square in Melbourne - a '69 Auto - which didn't look like too much work, but the fund has been flattened by some breakdowns and expensive burocracy of late.

I was halfway through my E-tax and the harddrive packed it in! I'm now on the ancient PC and cursing at slow web access!

I need to clone myself just to get all the things done that I have on my plate at the moment. That's also why I haven't been on here as much of late. BYRON may even be a financial problem now. I HATE BEING POOR!!!

hey aggri check your fuel lines and filter/s is the line going to the troublesome carbie old? perhaps its swelled inward and not as much fuel can make it through?, an old clogged up fuel filter perhaps putting a bottle neck in the system? do u have a bit of something stuck in a main jet in a carb which is stopping enough fuel getting in? .....drain the carbie bowls and remove the jets and blow them out with your mouth or a compressor and then wack em back in. and hopefully it will fix the problem.

oh and how is everyone? we went and had a look at a bug yesterday for eirinn.....it was about 5 mins away from her place in hicksville peachester which was lucky. it was a bit funny actually because we rocked up and i look at it as im driving up the driveway and say to myself. "71 or 72 superbug" the lady informs me its a 68, i look in the window and look at the steering column....ahh the lights are on the column so it must be a 72. .....content with this i go to the rear to check the engine.......hmmmm thats a bit weird. single port engine....looks like a 1500. its got a 30 pict carb.......i double check that im not just an idiot, but yes there are macpherson struts in the front so i check the VIN on the tunnel.........NOW ITS APPARENTLY A 71!.........so its a 71 superbug with a 72 steering column assembly and a 1500 single port engine......right lol. all in all looks like a nice car though, avocado green straight body a little bit of rust where it can be expected. doors close nice and even with no sagging.....minor bubbles forming just above a pillar base but nothing to worry about really for about 10 years. seats are in pretty good condition floor pan looks good. pretty cheap stereo that didnt want to work for me (but aparently its a great system :duh) its got good tyres and stock wheels, all chrome trim is in place and not dented at all......we jump in and i take it for a drive....i stall it because the clutch engages about half a centimetre off the floor where mine engages about 15 centimetres off. but then we are off.......OMG gutless as!. must be because of the 1600 box with the 1500 so the ratios are too high for the smaller engine. but it does drive well and stop great. though the handbrake is a bit dodgy (it works well but its hard to get the button in and lever down when you want to be off. now it had 3Grand on it on the ad but i think about 2 is fair she tells me she is very negotiable. ne way we leave and eirinn and her mother were going to return later so she could see it. (i had to go to see a guy about rust repair for my baja.) and when her mother asks about price the lady tells her 3 and a half. lol...........ive got a 1600 twin port super bug engine we could drop in and it would be great but not worth 3 grand let alone 3 and a half.

eirinns father is going to go have a look at it but if she will take 2 i reckon its a great car........maybe she will finally have a beetle.:D

Hey hey hey!!!!! I'm Back!!!

Well for the moment anyway. I'm on a steep learning curve as to how to deal with two children under 11 months. Thanks to my mother who is currently on holidays, my learning curve isn't too steep at the moment but wait till she goes back to work... Arrrrrgggghhhhh.

Well I hope you are all well. How are all your rides? Anything exciting happening??
