Just got word from the car doctor & the compression had gone in one of the valves so i have to book it back in next week to get a new head!!At
least its not a surprise & the kombi should be running way better once i get it back!!Also means my spliity money will be going to my bay so resto

Hey splittychick,
If it's a valve why do you need a new head ?. Is it cracked ?.
Try the forum you might be able to pick up a replacement if you need one.
Got the Notch back on it's wheels..whoo hoo and it's even level. On the bump stops on the front.
will post some picks not that its changed much but I need to show off the handy work before Robo steels the limelight with his oval.
AND NO I'M NOT JEALOUS. (well maybe a little)

all brakes at wheels stripped and cleaned
all front suspension parts replaced if worn
all wheel bearings cleaned and greased
All outer cv joints cleaned and repacked
Everything cleaned and sprayed gloss black for ease of cleaning.
All wheel arches painted with sound deadener and rust proofed

Looking good Kafer.Gotta love a Notch.:kiss
That sig. pic looks awesome i'm going to try & get myself one of those.
I think i used the wrong word when i said valve. When i took my kombi in to be serviced the compression was nil in one of the cylinders but after he
tightned something(???sorry i'm motor illeterate!!)the compression was back up to 110 but he wasn't sure if it would stay at that. That was 2 weeks
ago & its been running badly again this week & so he checked it again & it was down again but it only went back up to 70 this time so he
said i'll have to get a new head?I've noticed it in the past month or two that the kombi just hasn't had the same power that it did have & was
concerned about the compression as this is what killed the first kombi that i owned(amongst other things!!)Anyway shes booked in for next
Wednesday.

Notice i've only shown pics of the outside...
Well if all goes well should be 2-3 weeks
Put the carby kits in today and replaced all the fuel lines will start it tomorrow and see if I fixed the problem.
Then clean up the floors and paint, then the seats can go back in and then I have to get back to the wiring...been putting that off but its caught up
to me.
and i still need a passenger side front guard

Ah Zac.....If only normal life was that easy.
Righty oh folkaroonies fired the Notch up today and everything went to shit
One bank of cylinders wasn't working at all.
Was it electrical , was it fuel or was it a result of the hex put on me by a former employee who's husband is a practicing witch who put the hex on
me when I had to "let his wife go" when we discovered her sleeping with a client.(true story but nows not the time).
however no, it turned out to be a fuel issue one of the shut off valves in the new carby kit was blocked.
Put the old one back in and things picked up.
Now need to replace the hoses on the equalizer tubes as it won't idle and someome has used garden hose and lockwire as a joiner.
New I should have replced them while the carbs were off...oh well.
Funny thing was I had second son looking on and he wanted to know how I new it was only running on two cylinders(besides the fact it sounded like a
chaff cutter).
Well i said very scientific method I spat on the headers and one bank went sizzle while the other didn't. Needless to say he was impressed by
that.
Probably only works on a type3 not recommended for beetles or kombies.
sorry for the long post but I've just drunk 4 crownies in quick succession whilst not having any lunch. Maybe I should do that at work and I
wouldn't make so many mistakes when I type.
Ok thats it for now see ya tomorrow.

Hi guys.
Here is a link to some new photos that I got today at dad's mates house.
http://au.f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/zjsmits/album?.dir=/VW+Pics
It is a 54 beetle we think, but are not exactly sure. as you can see it has been left alone for a long time, and in Img_6796 those are vents on the
side as far as dad and I can determine.
Anyways, Quote: | Well i said very
scientific method I spat on the headers and one bank went sizzle while the other didn't. Needless to say he was impressed by that.
| this sounds like a good method to me Andy.
Cheers,
Zac |

c'mon robo where are you..we're sick of holding the fort
Jenz when are we going to get more pics of Bel
Not a good day on the Notch replaced all the connections on the equalizer tubes put the kit thru the other carby went to fire it up and nothing.
After ages of thinking it was a fuel problem discovered It was the coil because I left the ignition on and cooked it.
Then I replced the coil and it wouldn't run very well thats when I discovered I was out of fuel.
Some weekends your better off staying in bed.

I'm hearing you Rob.
I bet you can't wait to get that bad boy oval home and
Rip the front end out and weld in some adjusters and drop it on it's guts.
Rip the tired old 1200 out an whack in a 1916 on steroids.
Rip those woosy cheese cutters off and sit it on some huge chromed mags
Cut the dash out to stick in a monster tacho
and finally shoehorn in a huge, fully sic sub-whoofer mate, and some awesome neons under the running boards.
Man I can see that phat ride now, dude.

Kafer Man
Your starting to worry me! Looks like Im getting it from both sides! I have a friend that has a very nice STOCK STANDARD 54 Oval, he is busting to do
bad things to it, Its killing me to think anyone would want to change it, some PPL spend big money on restoring a car like that just to get it back to
original, why mess it up when you already have it original? so I keep trying to convince him to leave it alone. Throw some nice white walls on it and
give it a thorough detail, some nice VW accessorys, and I am positive there is not a VW lover around that would not fall in love with her the way she
left the factory. I have always loved standard cars, period accessorys are what I get my kicks from, my little 65 I had for 10 years had quite a few,
Factory rear venetian blind, factory push button radio, gear shift lock, Hella reversing light, dealer fitted mud flaps, lay back front seats.
Even the 66 Im restoring is going to be virtually stock, I rescued this car from the crusher, and could have done all sorts of wonderfull things to
the body, but I think she deserves the right to be like she once was, the only concession will be radial tyres, and thats basicly a safety issue. My
56 Oval runs crossplys and they will be staying on her with some nice white wall inserts.
I don't hold any grudges against PPL saving a car from obscurity, and doing a few things to it, Paint (flames ect) and a lowering job, may be a big
motor, and a few other things, their happy and they love the car I spose, and thats what matters, PPL loving their VW.
I just prefer to see them as they left the factory, I would love nothing better than to drive up to Dr Porsche's house in my old 56 and have a cup of
tea and talk to him about how he did such a great job of designing and making her, that to me would be heaven!
