Hi

Do TAFE still have the Beetle engine lid bottom as a project? I made one for an Oval I had at the time. Are you doing the journeymans course?

Nope, I think they stopped those courses a while ago - due to a lack of funding/interest. The current course I go to is "car restoration" where there is one teacher, a class of about 16 guys ranging from hotrodders, pommy car guys and me :) You bring in your own panels, work on them there, ask questions etc.

Hi

That sounds similar to what I did, you had to fail each year so that you could come back again next year. I met some really nice people, even my future next door neigbour at the course.

Hehe. I have done the course about 4 times now I think, each time you get this certificate which says you "passed" or whatever :)

I have cut my decklid and am grafting in some vents from a later '68-'70 to make it look like a cabrio. I was originally going to step the vents and spot weld it in, but I decided i'd cut it and butt weld it in with the oxy - mainly so when you look at the underside it would be completely smooth. I have just tacked one in so far

Also have been working on the bottom, using the slapper, hammer and dolly I have more or less got it good enough to use some lead filler. I just have to figure out how to attach the sliding bit for the lock now.

Fixed up this rear bit, pretty minor. Good thing I had some roof section left over from the ragtop.

Looks good! I think CT hansen had his W decklid done with front baywindow kombi vents to look factory "correct". I sprayed those bits in a booth.

Heh thanks barry. I will be going overseas for 2 months at chrissy so I have to save up! My goal is to get the thing painted before i leave :) I have been thinking of names, hmmm
Iron duke? Gandalf the grey? :)
