C'mon Ross, a little squirt to show off Dog's new power plant and then onto Willowbank test and tune would be perfect practise for the Warwick match

Mat,I was talking to "ROCKET"Rod last week I will know if he gives up the pies real soon he will keep
me busy at Warwick !! Although he knows he has an advantage as the heavier he gets the more turns he can give the NOS.

All in the process of us all having a happy time Mat.I have had a lot of enjoyment from
various responses from this forum & at the end of the day no matter how fast a car a
racer drives judge him only by the way he speaks & treats others...that is where the real value lies..Ross.
ps Dangerous Dave is one that I know that fits in this category.
pps I hope Rocketman will crash his diet soon !!!...Dave might forward some cakes down!!!

Alan...Warwick is my main priority..I really wanted to make it last year but owing to the immense fabrication of componentry was not to be.
Update....The car now only has to have fuel in it to be a goer.Tomorrow I will crank it over to test
the starter strength.Being naturally aspirated I have used the maximum practical comp ratio for alcohol.I machined
down a 6 volt armature, fitted it to a 12 volt housing with 12 volt field coils & put 18 volts into the armature circuit.
Despite all this it was just sufficient previously & provides more energy than a hi-torque unit.

Hi ! Ross , good to see you coming to Warwick , all concerned with vw drag racing have been working hard last couple years to help our hobby and sport
grow .
So new and old racer's coming back really shows we are building up to a larger events and faster cars . Top8 this year will be real tuff to get
into but this makes the challege more fun ( Mr Penrose didn't qualify last year ) .
Hope all goes well in testing and I will see you on the start Line !

1992 winternationals.
As you can see I was ahead of Ross in this photo.
Actually the truth was that Ross had run well into the tens by then,
but on this run,
he ran an 11.1 @ 120mph,
and I broke a type 1 CV joint.
Be good to race again Ross..... it's been too many years away!!!

Dear Dave....Now don't let the truth get in the way of a good story in that photo we hadn't staged !!Jerk my memory did I win that one on your
mechanical misfortune..maybe the only bit of luck I that I will ever have against you !!! I promise to be a lot fairer these days I will be the
gentleman that you are & give you more start in trade off for muffins !!!
Peter....Warwick will be like a large family reunion for me.I only remember you lads as young boys, not
matured men with families. The expense & workload on this project will certainly be rewarded by the
the times that are about to unfold..Regards & anxiously awaiting Warwick.

You are correct Ross,
that photo was just after the burnout....which you were about to begin.
Back in those days your burnouts were so long the smoke began to turn black.
I think you had run a best of 10.71@124 by that stage, and my best was 11.56@123.25mph,
but yes, the broken CV stopped my chances of breaking into the 10s that run.(I was dreaming)
It did happen though in early 1994.

Yes I was going to come clean Ross,
as soon as I stopped being hypnotized by your avatar.
My old memory is getting a little fuzzy too.
After shuffling through over 400 time slips and 30 note books,
I found the correct details and have edited the info about my times above.
I was 23 years old back then.
It is surprising how 17 years can cloud the truth!!!!

Where did that avatar come from.. is that the lady you bought back from overseas that we are all led to believe that she is in training to be in your

"Dangerous" Dave,
I haven't met you yet, but I've been following this thread for some time and I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines at Warwick. I've known
Ross for a number of years (in fact it was after I encouraged him to come with me to spectate at a Willowbank meeting, that he was bitten by the
'bug' - pardon the pun, to go drag racing again).
It is now over 5 years ago that Ross told me he would be racing Houndog again "in three months time". Like a fool, (and trusting what he
said), I went out and bought a video camera to film him competing in the next meeting. Anyhow, It's been so long since I bought my video camera that
they no longer have Betamax tapes.
Consequently, I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers Ross's been quoting, as he's got 'form'!
p.s. He's telling me he'll be giving the car a shakedown run at Gunnedah on 18 & 19th July, and want's me to come down from Brisbane to watch.
Can I trust that he'll be there?

Dear "dangerous"....Obviously that TopGun mate of mine has not realised yet that you supplied me the
performance numbers....so its not my form on the line !!! I found out that he was the one I trusted with
with my forum password etc & now look at my greeting avatar not only that when he was in the Auto-Motion
workshop last time he looked at the Winternationals pre-entry list..did a cut/copy/paste deleted a competitor & substituted it with a Gene Berg
entry..and had the hide to say when he summoned me to the computer "this Gene Berg fellow isn't he the national record holder?" My only clue to
this deceit..the spelling as Burg.I will be definitely be at Gunnedah all the car needs is fuel to be added.ps TopGun (one of the original guys that
lent on me real hard to reconstruct & re-race the 'DOG"will be driving down from Brisbane..I am looking forward to running the car after so much
input..and if it rains on the day I will not be concerned as long as TopGun gets that new camera wet !!!

Hello Mr Top Gun,
based on your user name,
I am guessing you are related to Tom Cruise or something.....only a
little taller I guess.
Ross assures me he will be at Gunnedah rain hail or shine,
so that camera of yours with the hubble atached to the front will get some use.
Plus, I believe that Gunnedah track is an old air strip so you should be at home....or at least at work!
The numbers Ross is quoting I gave him based on a bit of maths,
but mostly wild guessing and a whole heap of BS.
In a perfect world it may run that on a good track with good air and a clean run.
...but being that the old guy is now getting out of the old folks home,
I think he will be happy if he gets to within 1/2 second for the first few meetings,
but still worth the drive for a look.
There will be no reason to cheer me on,
I will have ross all psyched out(and I'll get a head start) not even factoring the "old guy" reaction times.
Look forward to meeting you and catching up with Ross again after all those years.
You blokes sound like good sports and have a friendly rivalry.
Should be a great event this year at Warwick.

Dave..you have summed him up well..he is tall but if you drained all the BS from him the rest would fit in a shoe box !!
He is Brisbane's youngest retiree (50 or close) an ex air traffic controller & you know their poor record on aeroplace separation.Simmo (alias
TopGun) has been right on my case for 5 & 1/2 years.."haven't you finished that bloody
thing yet".(.I am glad he wasn't helping) His claim to fame is that he gets out of bed unassisted & can find his way around the house, knows
where the fridge & toilet are.The camera in question has an image stabilising lens fitted
& this huge camera is a substitution of his physical inadequacies I am sure of it!!
Dave you know how he wants to cheer you on only at Warwick-well during recess a good purpose for him would be to keep the pies up to "THE ROCKETMAN"
so Rod gets lethargic at the lights !!!
ps Its real handy slowly closing in on 60 as I have a good excuse not to perform...my horespower should fill some of these gaps !!!

"Dangerous" Dave,
Nah! The TopGun reference is nothing to do with aviation (nor Tom Cruise), it's a "dig' at Ross regarding a friendly shooting competition in which
we compete against each other. We have a "TopGun" trophy which is currently in Ross' possession and which he refuses to pass on to me, even though
I have beaten his former 'benchmark' record (and beaten it five times........ in his presence?????). Obviously his ethics when defeated are
questionable, so I'd certainly suggest that you keep an eye on him at any awards ceremony where there is an opportunity for him to abscond with the
winner's trophy.
Also, I don't think you'll need to psych him out at the start line for a couple of reasons. Firstly, although I haven't seen him race Houndog in
the flesh, I've seen all the video footage of him competing. I don't think I saw one clean pass, and he seemed to 'bog-down' at every green light
- particularly when he was up against someone running a V8. I think he's trying to prove that 'size doesn't matter', but I think his wife may have
a different story.
Secondly, he's been quoting new and impressive horsepower figures that are a big improvement over what Houndog had when it last ran competitively.
What Ross doesn't mention is that Houndog's power-to-weight ratio is a lot worse than before (thanks to the driver's ever increasing girth) and is
why Ross has earned the moniker "Fat Rod" amongst his mates!
Cheers
TopGun

Dear Dave...dont worry about the trophy table.. but if there are any homemade muffins they will be under threat !!
Do you run 10.71 @ 200Ks (in the early nineties) bogged down ???
The V8s were always a hardship especially of how much start you had to provide to them !!
Can we find a purpose for TopGun at Warwick?? He will be the fellow with the oversize camera sqatting down not
getting past page 1 of its instruction manual !!!
My original 20 year old outdated woollen racing suit still fits me unstretched & am the lightest that I have been in 20 years...Fat Rod ??---- I
wonder if there is "ROCKETMAN" confusion here !!!!
The fastest TopGun has ever been is his exit speed at birth on the delivery table !!!
One valuable lesson to be learnt here..is never let anybody lower your standard to raise their hopes...now aint that the truth ??

Ross , I am also looking forward to Warwick and to once again see the DOG { hot , hound or red } with all that extra power . With all of the extra
power and all of the less driver weight , I think you will have no problem at all getting it up . The big question is how long do you think you can
keep it up , because you are now a lot more mature than than the last time you raced , ROD. { THE REAL FATROD }
