Stuff
It amazing how much stuff you collect over the years.
been digging though boxes of stuff for the engine build.
Been picking out tinware thats in good order and engine parts.
I worked it out I've collected early beetle stuff for 19 years!
Starting to show my age. :duh
I'm just glad I got a bit of 36hp stuff as most people have just chucked it out over the years.

well after reading the judson forum from front to back or is that screen to screen! LOL
It looks like I need to get myself an oil cooler from a 356.
the 356 oil cooler has more surface area and judsons tend to make motors run hot from what I read.
So this seems to be the method of fixing.
Time to ring around. LOL

Bugboy, i originally had my blower put straight onto my 36hp, as away alot with drilling i don't get the time to tinker and time to learn
how to do it myself. I should originally had the engine stripped down, end result was i blew a hole in the No 3 piston. Daryll Yates who
was the original owner of Volksmod did the rebuild, bigger oil cooler etc, he did some work on the heads to keep temperature down (not sure what ),
but have
had 10,000 miles on it until blower seized, my fault. Make sure idler jet is locktite on as had that suck through, happens a bit. Exhaust was changed
to reduce heat but according to Judson forum its better to keep standard as has a effect on Blower vaccum. Have talked to John Moxon about
ceramic coat blower housing bit he's said that most of the heat is generated by compression and not friction. I can get Daryl Yate's number if you
want.

Thanks
Thanks for the info chip.
I'm only building the engine stock but with a better oil cooler, nothing else. I knew of the stock exhaust was the best for back pressure.
I think if you look back the unit was made and sold as an upgrade to a stock engine and not really as a high performance unit.
I think this is where people try to get more out of it and in return they get problems.
I'll be building my motor and running it in first and them fitting the kit and run in the blower etc.
Something i'm looking forward to.

looking
Well its proving hard to find all the parts to build a 36hp engine, or maybe I'm just not looking or asking in the right places?
I have all the tinware sorted out and ready to be cleaned and painted.
Biggest thing is finding a case thats good in the cam tunnel as they never had bearings here and just ran in the case.
I have a few engines I can pull down but some of them a running fine but once just pulled down you just carn't put it back together if its worn and
use it as it was.
If anyone has any 36hp stuff you think i might need feel free to send me a u2u. LOL
So far I have:
77mm pistons sets in a few over sizes.
pushrods
values
cam

engines
Still pulling down engines to find parts and cases suitable for rebuilding.
Will be cleaning and crack testing cases and checking cam tunnels on cases next.
I hoping to find a good case straight away and not pull to many apart.
Have collect up a full set of tinware now and are going to get it all cleaned.
I hate dirty engines YUK!

open close case
Well the case is open.
The cam tunnel is fine and very little sign of wear.
But get a load of the cam.
Seem the hardening on the lifter has gone! LOL
Check out the wear also on the cam.

lifters
For those not in the know, the lifter should not have a concave surface on the cam follower.
The one on the right is ok but the one on the left is stuffed.
All will be replace with new parts later.
The one still in the other half of the engine has worn right though and you can now see a hole. LOL

New year new idea?
Well Over Christmas I thought that I should finish the car in 2008. LOL
So I arranged about getting it painted at Delux in Dandy.
Having no idea really about painting a car I thought I'd find out a bit from someone that's built heaps of great cars etc.
So the first thing was finish off a few little bits of welding here and there and strip the car back to bare metal again ready for the paint.
First I stripped the under side and painted it all with POR15.
Sprayed inside all the heater channels etc.
Then all the sides and roof where taken back to bare metal.
De-oxidised and etch primed.

Starting again
Well everything came to a grinding holt.
I have had a big clean out of some of my stuff, off loaded both my micro busses, twin cab ute even sold the 56 oval that i thought i'd never sell.
And now have added another car to my collection.
Some of you my know this car, its been around for some time now.
It in fact was the first ever split beetle that i had ever seen.
The chance to own it was just to hard to knock back!
Work will start on the rag roof oval again soon.
As the sheds bare I have some more room to get to it.

It's almost a shame to paint over all of that brilliant lead wiping work! You are quite masterful with metal matey, I love the build, especially your
choice of the 36hp with the old school blower.
Should be an amazing car to drive!
