Cheers dino!

After work tonight I gave the high build primer a rub down with 3M dry guide coat. Cleaned it up and shot the black base coat and 3 coats of clear. Pic is pretty crappy but you get the idea. I'll take a few more tomorrow.
http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/albums/album438/Jun6_decklid7.jpg

The head 'bash plate' was previously in plain aluminium - Rod wanted a lick of paint on it so it was painted the same colour as the dash insert/roll cage etc.
http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/albums/album438/Jun6_head_bash_plate.jpg

Hopefully tomorrow will see a final light buff of the entire body, a thorough clean and colour sand the decklid. Then off to Wintersun on sunday (hopefully not raining!)

Just went down to catch up with Dasdubber this afternoon to drop some things off, say hello, check out his new digs and check out some of his handiwork for myself.... all I can say is he is one dedicated, hard working person......

....and deserves all the accolades he gets, the man is a machine.

Thanks Alan - good to catch up with you today!

Today I finally finished the chop top! It has turned out really well (in my opinion) - again remembering this was never meant to be a $20K paint job!

I agree with everyone above Al - looks amazing and I'd hate to think what a $20K paint job would look like if that's not one! Don't know that I could tell the difference actually.

Pete asked me on Sunday what I really thought of the car as I havent said much about it . Its f-ing unreal thats what I think . The car is now back at the Dak-A-Tak workshop where the upgrade continues. A new set of Fuchs will make its way onto the car as well as a couple of boxes of goodies from the States and a few race oriented mods. The gearbox also had an upgrade by Dave including a intermediate housing to convert the kombi box to beetle shift .
Big thanks to Al for the outstanding paint job . Looking forward to doing a few laps in it.

Great to hear you are pleased Rod. Owner's reactions are always hard to decipher as some people are outwardly stoked and others quite reserved - I do my best to keep people happy where I can so it is good to get some feedback (good or bad).

From the outset of the 'resto' the brief was never to make it perfect as ultimately it is a racecar....so this was not a $20K plus paintjob - there are things which are not perfect and areas which could be improved , but I had to stop somewhere or else the bill would have blown out of proportion!

Anyway, as you mention Rod, can't wait to see it hit the track again!

After Allan's fine job on paint I thought I'll keep this post alive !
We now have Rod's 2276cc motor from 48ida blue car in the chop (as dyno day ) for some racing fun .
Next outing is Jamboree 2008 event , I have fitted for Rod ,a 6al msd and 2step as blue car , new old simpson racing belts , all so put working head lights for night racing , plus tidy up lots of little jobs ( wiring ,running boards ,bonnet )
