ok, can i start by saying how much i hate the fact that this site kicks you off after a certain amount of time, after mike and i read through all the posts and then i wrote my thesis in reply to all the posts, this site kicked me off and i lost the entire reply :grind:

now back to the reply: dangerous: i picked the heads up on tuesday from ultratorque (dennis gatt) but then as most things go, i decided to take things a little further and took them to mr Stroker and got them shaved a little more  im wearing slippers as i write this :D so ben gatt would be pround hahahaha.... we're about to be measuring the cc's at the moment just to make sure its all good, then depending on how late we wanna stay at the shop hopefully we fit them tonight...... also, im building the motor myself at our shop with mike supervision as my experience is based around holdens and chevs, iv only been into dubs for about 4 and a bit years..........

now for birchall: yeah i know about the rods, i already had a set of chromoly push rods but im making a new set for these heads.....

westi: ur fucked.... hahahaha and shhhh about stuff..... p.s. nice qld-er call hahaha

Henry: you are right as another reason for not posting pics is that things change during the build process (which i know all too well) cant even list how many different idea changes there have been with my car and mike's car through the past months, let alone weeks........

as for every body else, WOW this thread has created quite a stir....... pleased about the interest in the work mike and i have been doing but there is nothing to hide, mike is pretty useless with computers and is trying to build a car the HE will enjoy..... i am being kept very busy trying to get my car done for warwick, but im going to condense all the progress pics we have of his car, just give me some time to try and post them all, next few days ill get around to doing it...... its been going slow with all the stuff we are doing, as well as the fact the that we both work stupid hours at our day jobs...... anyway, thanks to all with the interest in what we are doing and keep posted for the pics of mikes progress pics as well as some of mine......

cheers adam

Looking Good Adam.
If your valves dont have hard tips you may want to use lash caps.
How much lift did you end up with?

Thanks Adam,
I hear that Mike will be firing the car up soon. Be sure to have the video camera at the ready!!
The workshop looks great!

Mike should I take Matt up on his offer for the KG!!?

The last time I took the Ghia for a run down the drag strip it was against a yank named Mike Martinez in his black ghia. On the green he was in neutral and I took of in 2nd gear! It was a slow race but boy we looked good!

just did the dyno tune, still need way more tuning as this was only some guess work to get it running before warwick, definitely alot more left in it...... rockers work great and motor is really happy with the new heads... need to weld a bung in the exhaust after warwick and then re-dyno it with an oxy sensor..... after portland its coming apart again, i need to put more comp into it as its way lower than we thought at 8 something (cant remember now).... also once its apart again, im thinking i might aswel drop in the new cb counter weight crank iv got and go for a much more aggressive cam, as this one is only an engle 110 and was put in there with the stock 1600 heads that were on before...... iv got pic of dyno sheet below.

definitely a 110.... it was making power before at 5800 but that was with stock 1600 heads and 1.25 vw ratio rockers... now its got cb oval heads, long valves and pauter 1.4's in it, so i figure thats where the difference is....... need a bigger cam though and up the comp..... its totally killing the power this thing could be making

That is an interesting Graph there adam,
I'll bet it has a lot more 'pick-up' than before.

Using the 1.4s with the W110 is pretty radical...kind of like a roller cam with the valve movement.
But because the valve sees each given lift so much earlier with 1.4's, it will behave like a cam with more duration.

You will want to keep an eye on the valve adjustment....and use a rev limiter.
With the valve lift rates using 1.4s on a 1.1 cam, it can be pretty harsh.

Can't wait to see how it goes at Warwick.

engle 110 producing power that high just doesn't sound right ............good result, you should be doing mid/low 9's at Warwick with that ?

yeah, i cant say im entirely happy with it at the moment, but as i said it was a very guestimated tune as i still need to weld a bung into my exhaust for the oxy sensor, it has a big fluffy bit that starts around the 3200rpm mark (obvious on the dyno graph) i should have just cracked open the block and changed the cam while it was out, maybe before portland  iv got a 6al in it so the limiter will definitely be in, im thinking ill set the shift light at 6100 and the limiter at 6400 gives me enough time to shift and still be in peak rpm area. gonna take it for a decent drive to the beach then drop the oil again and at the same time adjust the valves to make sure it will be all spot on before warwick....yeah i cant wait either!! it will give me a chance to drive it and learn what the car does and doesnt like (havent given it a proper squirt on the street yet but already seems totally different to before) im really keen to see ur car up there, always impressive :tu:

no idea what times to expect, ill just be happy to get out on the track and have some fun with the rest of the vw gang.. plus i think my weight might hinder the times a little .. i have no idea what to expect as i have never run it on a track, the car started out as a drunken idea to get a cheap paddock basher...... hmmmm may have gotten a little out of control.... all good, i just wish i had more time and money to get it really going the way i want, but all in due course i guess...... thinking maybe i should just bite the bullet and go for bigger cubes while i have everything apart next time............................................................
