took him for his first drag race in Oz.
I finally took the 52 bug to the track, well air strip for our first race in it. We turned the boost down to 12ish, didn't change any tuning. Added some race fuel & raced old school, didn't use stage brake etc. No burn out. Funny American car with the stick shift on the wrong side :) ran a 8.825sec, 1.745 60FT, reaction .387.
the VW drove very good, I only hit the 6300rpm shift light in first , didn't notice until we watch the video. felt heaps good.

Installing disc brakes, 5 spokes finally going on today, Ross will be shortening tierods today, hopefully i'll be ready to roll this weekend! Will post a pic when we're done :) Next cab off the rank will be restoring the lovely Porsche 356 seats i picked up yesterday. Slowly slowly its coming together :)

Update: At least its on the ground now! :) I think its got some potential!

Have to mention Ross @ Skinned Knuckles for doing an awesome job narrowing the beam 4.5" while still keeping shock towers, micartas and needle roller bearings. This dude is seriously good!

I wont make it to the Nationals supersprint this year as I have had way too much on my plate recently . I spent the past 3 weeks (night & day) preparing Craigs formula vee with new engine for the racing .
My new car is finished and ready to go in the trailer for the show tomorrow , and I am still detailing 'Mango Dream' this morning . I have all of the brakes off , wheel bearings out , front swaybar & suspension arms out , still need to polish the paint , detail the interior .:crazy:

Took my baby out for it first drive in almost 12 weeks. What can i say... I'm ECSTATIC with the work that's been done on the car and it was definitely worth the wait. The car handles beautifully, 1,000x better than when i first bought it. The steering is dead centre and doesnt drift in any direction, zero play on the steering. New disc brakes are an absolute GEM and i tried braking with no hands... just comes to a very confident stop in a straight line. Couldnt be happier.

I think i might have a few things to say on an old topic about narrowed beams (the beam is narrowed 4.5"). To be perfectly honest, the thread put the fear of God in me about narrowing the beam, and i was expecting bump steer on every pebble, instability on every corner and chaos on every bump in the road. After trying it for the first time today, this thing literally stuck to the road like sh* to a blanket. I dont see any problem with the turning circle as i was easily able to do a u turn on an intersection (full lock and no rubbing at all) and with the lower stiffer stance I definitely feel a lot more certain it will go where i point it.

Lovin it! Now its time to cruise :) :) :)

Updated with recent pic from todays cruise to Volks Home in Thomo for some bits n pieces. Cant blv how much attention this thing gets on the road!!! Very unsual feeling having every car that comes past checking out your ride... its been too long hehe

Fixed the crunching sound from the rear drum. A retaining pin for rear shoes fell out, some pretty mangled springs inside the drum brake housing. New shocks go in tomorrow.
