Thats why I included the bit that decribes your signature picture.
When I was a young bloke I had two 64 Holdens, One had 7" chromie's and a hot 192, I spent every day and afternoon after work, laying underneath
her with a wire brush cleaning the pan and running gear, diff, front end, and anything else under there, and then painting it. I just got the body
painted. I spent heaps on chrome goodies for the old red motor, alloy rocker cover, cam covers oil pump cover, ect ect! Then I installed a celica 5
speed alloy gearbox$$$ it was my whole life! (except for Jodie) I spent every dollar I made on that car, lost sweat, skin and blood on it. and when I
finished it. someone STOLE IT! I was devistated to say the least. I never insured it because I spent every dime I had on restoring it! I never got
over it, and I drifted away from cars altogether and just had a Bike. Then Jodie told me she wanted a Beetle, so I looked for quite some time and
finally found one that belonged to the original owner, an old lady that could not drive it anymore due to failing health. My father and his father
had Volkswagens, and when Jodie got hers, I started the whole car VW love thing over again, and spent all my time detailing Jodies 65, It was a great
car to begin with, it just needed a bit of a freshen up, new carpet and a good clean inside and out, and some new shockys and bearings and stuff. I
have never looked back, and have had VW's ever since. But loosing the Holden the way I did has left a bit of a mark on my phsyc, and I am very
reluctant to waste money on go fast goodies or body modifications ect ect. And since I have gotten that sort of stuff out of my system, and spent time
with restorers of all types of, and make's of vintage cars ( most of ours fall into this cat now) I just think that they are more beutiful if left
the way they came from the factory, a nice shiny coat of paint, and a good interiour, makes me more happy than a 500 hp engine. and a sore backside
and rattly teeth! and some scum stealing it!

Heh all.....
Rob your almost making me cry with that story.I don't think i'd ever get over it either to spend all that time, money & love on a car only to
get it stolen would break my heart.Not to mention wanting to kill the bastards that stole it!:cussing
Not much happ'n here.We've got the vw club meeting 2nite(as jen said)so that should be good.
My kombi goes in to get the new head 2morrow so i'm looking forward to how she'll be running when i pick her up.Pyro hows your kombi running??
Nothings happ'n with the splitty,although one of the guys on here has some repair panels coming from Schofields in the u.k & i've put in my
order for the front repair panel which i'm excited about as i've had major trouble trying to find one anywhere in oz.

yeh pretty good picked up the muffler on saturday geting it welded up tomorrow.
the final prob i had was the muffler being shot and not creating enough back pressure :bounce
hows the splitty going, splittychick ??
robo that story about ur 64 holden was pretty sad, being a 64 it would of had to of been an eh wouldnt it ??

The lowered front end is not the original. It's hanging up in my shed
Even the notch can be turned into a resto should the need arise.
And speaking of the notch engine now running sweet going to paint the floor this weekend and then back to the wiring....:cussing

Thats the trouble with these resto's, it's like a never ending story, it goes on and on and on!!! I have been going 4 months on the 66 and I have
only just finished all the body work, now I have to prepare it for paint. Then I have to rebuild an engine, renew all the brake system, wire it up, do
all the inside trim, new tyres fix the steering wheel, all new rubbers, ohhh mannnn, somebody save me!!!
Well at least Im having fun, sometimes anyway!

Hi all 
Mandie I missed you last night at the meeting
Hope the headache is better....
I know Steve's feelings....If I wasn't already in town then I possibly wouldn't have gone.....We have a couple of people on holidays and tyhings
have been busy at work, plus I've been training a new guy.......My brain was melted by the end of the day...and I got out late cos of it
all!!!:jesus
Today was no better....didn't get a break until around 4ish and I was ready to faint...people just kept coming in the door.....I think we are all
feeling the same way so can't complain......
We got home about an hour ago ...had pizza in town to let the traffic pass and just doing a quick catch up before going to bed......
Rob I'll read the story on the weekend I think.....From Mandie's response I want to read it and not skim....
I had to log on just to feel like I've made contact with base....I miss here!!!

The mechanics bill was rather large i spose but she is running so well.The power difference is really recognisable.you gotta love the 2litre
engine.Thats one thing that will take some getting use to with the splitty,the power difference as shes only a 1600.Oh well the splitty will look
beautiful on the outside but run a little slower while the bay will have the power but not the looks( shes still beautiful coz shes a kombi of course
but she needs a lot of work on the outside as shes got faded & cracked paint,dints & rust!!)But of course i still love her.:kiss
Congrats on passing rego Pyro.Speaking of rego,coz my splittys got a poptop does that mean when i take her to get rego that i'll need an engineering
cert. coz its not stock??(mind you thats quite some time away!!) |

Hi Zac
See if you can get the owner to put it under cover, I would see if I could get it for free, you could start to clean it up a little and try to limit
the rest of the decay. If you could store it until you have a bit more time to sort things out. It is definately worth the effort, In the meantime you
could work on your dad a bit more. Rebuilding these things is not that difficult, if you are in the slightest bit handy you can do a lot yourself. I
have seen some really bad cases that have been restored, one's that you would think are too far gone. All I can go on is what was in the pictures, It
dosent look that bad. That car really deserves to be restored.
