Sin is a moral line in the sand that (hopefully) moves as societys develop, otherwise we would still be getting stoned to death for saying
jehovah.

If the old testament is a work of fiction then why wont the Turkish government let anybody near Mt Sinai(I think) to look at the petrified remains of
Noah's ark?? Dimensions etc all correlate with what size the old testament say it was and satelite pics clearly show it high on the top of the
mountain semi buried by generations and generations of erosion etc.
How do I know this?? My Aunty used to work for a firm(up until last year) that travels the world finding proof of such things happening in history.
and when the turkish govt found out they found the ark and had pics of it nobody is allowed within cooee of it.
Noah's ark references are found in Genesis Chapter 6-9 which is the very first book in the old testament if i'm not wrong. So now i guess why you
would want to keep such a finding "quiet" as it certainly would disprove theories and speculations about the bible being "fiction" instead of
being fact.....

There are a few published photos of an object high up on Mt Arrat kicking arround (though the most famous was taken by the Russians back in the days
of biplanes).
I am concerned that morality should be relative. Does that mean society can decide when it is ok to rape, send children down coal mines, pedaphile,
burn unwanted people etc (Im not saying that relative morality is ok in hindsite, just ok when you are actually doing it).
Surely morality has to be more than relative to what society deems acceptable at the time.

As is often said - every thing in moderation. a little rape, a little murder, a little incest, a little....... (somehow I dont think so).

Noah's tale is a symbolic story of faith and justice, handed down, meshed and embelished from similar 'flood' tales from ancient Sumeria, Iran and
Egypt. Many religions have similar flood stories, particularly as ancient civilisations were built on rivers that were subject to flooding. It is not
literally true.
The King James bible only refers to the 'mountains of Ararat', not specifically the mountain we recognise as today's Mt Ararat in eastern Turkey.
You can easily inspect Mt Ararat with Google Earth; Noah's ark was supposed to be 130m long (bigger than any wooden ship ever built in modern times),
but you won't see it. It isn't there. Fundamentalists have searched similar mountains nearby, as well as ranges in Syria and Iran, all without luck.
Because there is nothing to find. It is not literally true.
You might as well try to look for the bones of the Rainbow Serpent in Arnhem Land - they are equally real.

ok to rape = war and prision sentences (shared cells)
send children down coal mines = industrial revolution
pedaphile = ancient greek & roman societys
burn unwanted people = nazis ww2
society has already condoned and outlawed all the things you have listed that is how we evolve by developing a moral level that is set by current
civilisation.

I agree. Thats why I struggle with morality being relative. Whilst today these things are considered barbaric (?), at the time they were considered
acceptable.
