I was getting that familiar paddling a canoe feeling when driving my bug again because the seat rail bushings were going to shit.

I originally replaced these in my first 71 Sbug back in 1996 and put them in my Lbug when I swapped interiors so they only lasted 17 years.

I feel so hard done by

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p174/Buggin_74/P6080755.jpg

But like all repro parts these days the new ones are a lousy fit and being smaller still rock around a bit.
They are ones sold by CIP1, Micks etc.

Has anyone found good quality ones anywhere?
I'll do some ringing around on Monday and try my luck

The originals I bought were genuine ones from Al at Stokers Siding but he has long since retired and shut up shop.

Took the old beast for a cruise around the burbs on all the little back streets (I only have an unregistered vehicle permit). Heaps fun, but im looking forward to some real cruising soon :) Unfortunately i will have to wait 3 months to be eligible for club reg, so i will have to make do with these little weekend spins around the neighbourhood til then.

Amazing how when my own race car doesn't need any attention, I manage to find another to work on !!!

Today was front wheel align on the club's Drag Fasty - instead of +1.5 camber and 11mm toe out, the 0.5 and 5mm toe out she has now should help handling a bit.

Tomorrow will be flush and bleed brakes, tappets, oil change, tune up and maybe even fit a kill switch and push starter.

Bloody vws!

Still starter trouble on the stocka. Cleaned battery earth, gearbox earth strap, checked battery and relay.... Got over it and changed starter motor. See how it goes

Decided to do valve adjustment and oil change.

....started getting hotty ready for drags. First step to dig (hammer and screwdriver :grind: ) the bitumen out of the new jaycee sump plate/plug to drain oil and do it's valves.

Not today, but last Friday night, I started at about 5:30pm to wake up the car from it's 2 year slumber in the shed. I put in a brand new battery and fitted a new Ramflo air cleaner to the single Weber. Then I tried to take it for a test drive, but the throttle linkage failed. I went to a mate's workshop, chopped up the throttle arm and re-welded the barrel nut bracket to a different location. Then we went back and put it on, then tuned up the weber to get it running. Then we went back down to the workshop with the exhaust leaking and popping huge flames.

Then, at the workshop, we changed the oil, took the exhaust off, cleaned up all the exhaust joints, sealed it up with copperseal, put it back together, secured the battery and mounted a fire extinguisher to the floor ready for the VW Club of SA bitumen khanacross on Saturday. Finishing time: 2:35am.

We didn't have time to wash the dust off it, but we made it to Tailem Bend in time for the driver's briefing at 9:30am, and the scrutineers kindly squeezed us in a bit late!

Replaced both hand brake cables on the square back and fixed my heater levers so that they will stay in place when I open them (its cold down here in the mornings).
Had a lot of fun getting one of the slotted nuts off so I could get to the mechanisms - but in the end I have a car that I drive and safely park again :)-

Finished some rust repairs on the stocka, seal lip at top of bonnet, under windscreen, tail light housings and bottom lip of bootlid. Wierd one in the 1/4 panel forward of the top door hinge:spin:

Fluking a colour match after the paint mixing guru went AWOL was sweet

Kicker was putting the windscreen back in, new rubber, chrome strip and installed in the car all first go and under 2 hours. Happy with that!!

took her for a spin to the local auto shop to buy some parts for the wifes car, noticed my horn wasn't working.

went home and noticed i could hear the relay clicking but no sound coming from the horn.

pulled the relay out, pulled it apart and gave the contacts a good clean.. i now have a fully functioning horn :) :)
