I will have to try and avoid large pot holes on the street to look after the beam , but will be pulling it back out to narrow it in the near future . this will also help to stiffen it a little . the weight saved is closer to 35 pounds .

today I fitted the wastegate to the secondary engine pipes but haven't yet finished the dump-pipe .

there wasn't enough space in the engine bay for the mallory promaster ignition coil , so it has been fitted in the back of the oval

this will blow you away !! pic shows the last rego label still attached to the front screen ( 1989 ). this is the screen from this car as the oval was stripped at my workshop 5 years ago and has been stored under cover since .

hey wayne are the headers your using to take the exhaust forward from the heads, are they custom made or are they the stock ones off a 914( type 4 without the cooling fins) cause this is very similar to what i want to do with my exhaust on chaos minus the turbo for the moment. how do they go for ground clearance. btw i wasnt bagging you before just saying that it would be in the grey area of the design rules.

rear quarter view of the BRM's . unfortunately due to excessive wheel track problems in the front end , stock 4-stud rims will be used at the VW drags next week . this will be rectified by narrowing the front beam shortly after this event and the BRM's also fitted to the front in 5-stud

wayne i noticed the blow off valves go to atmophere for reg don,t they need to be recycled back into the inlet system for induction noise.

a 1967 beetle doesn't have to comply with any AUSTRALIAN DESIGN RULES , so I am not aware of the legallities of venting the blow-off valve to atmosphere ( it is only an air pressure relief valve / NO FUEL ) . I will have to see what the engineer has to say and what it has to comply with for engineering purposes . Thanks for the comments though !!:duh

MORE PROGRESS TODAY


today I spent the entire day doing all the crappy little jobs that needed to be done to complete the oval job properly . All of the factory wiring at the front of the oval is now repaired and connected ( headlamps , speedo , switches etc ) . I then manufactured the dump pipe from the waste-gate to the 3" engine pipe and welded it in place . After fitting up the engine pipe I then assembled the rest of the exhaust system and did a final fit-up including manufacturing support brackets . and finally fitted the battery box and did a dummy fit-up of the internal housing that will cover the turbo assembly . the box still has to be welded together . Eaton Fluidpower @ Unanderra manufactured and delivered the oil pressure line to the turbo and Fred @ Turbologic has the oil drain hose that I will collect on monday . all going well the oval should fire-into-life on monday afternoon . first pic shows the dump pipe welded to the engine pipe
