the bodywork is completed on Bens bug and he masks the wiring and cage so that paint can be applied . His bug is then taken to the panel shop for final prep and paint .

top end assembly starts with honing 0.0025" out of the barrels to gain the correct piston skirt to cylinder wall clearance and the gaping of all the piston rings , then assembly of pistons and cylinders .
I love Bens new piston ring set with a 1mm top ring , 1.2mm second ring & a 2.8mm oil ring . When gaping the rings I have never felt top piston rings so hard ..... they will certainly take some punishment and it was visablely noticable how reduced the friction is on the cylinder wall with the narrow ring set

a CSP oil pump relief cover will be used with an oring sealed oil pump this time . the engine is assembled and the blower manifolds are welded up

Bens drag bug is painted


we got Bens' bug back this afternoon and it looks great after being painted . The paint is a perfect colour match to the doors & front end , but is far better quality than the first paint job

tonight Ben removed all of the covers from the cage and suspension ..... his bug looks great !!
Ben then started to reassemble his bug , starting with the fuel system . The fuel tank , pump , filter & lines have all been reinstalled while I fitted his pushrod tubes and valve gear & adjusted the tappets . Tomorrow night reface the supercharger plate as it has distorted through the welding process , install the supercharger & fit the engine back into his bug

on saturday night we ran into a problem with the new RLR clutch assembly . The clutch assembly was striking the clutch fork casting area in the transmission housing , leaving the engine approx 3mm from the transmission . It was later discovered that the clutch assembly supplied was to be used with an engine plate between the engine and the transmission .
Late last night Ben, Dean, Cayne, uncle Ray and Chris decided to undo months of my work on DTTF (with my consent) and remove the engine to steal my aluminum engine plate .
We took a template of the engine plate before cutting it to suit Bens bug , so that it can be reproduced after Warwick . The engine plate has been installed into Bens bug and the cluch assembly clears with the engine being turned over

Bens engine is installed as the rest of team WPVW assembles his bug . A new exhaust system is also manufactured staring with flaring up the size of the exhaust outlets
