I have run 12.43@ 107mph in my 2442 NA street car. Road legal and registered. I used it for two months as a daily driver, still gets driven. Admitedly
you need noise cancelling headphones with the ipod to live with it... but it is a real street car... 4000 rpm at 100 km/h makes it fun !!

Did you drive it there or have it towed ? If your towing it then how is it any different to a drag car ? A bit of paperwork that says its complied and
registered doesnt pass .

race it should be legit .
I haven't been on this or any forum for ages now & thought I'd have a quick look.
I'd never seen this thread & as I started reading it, I along with many others would straight away how long this has been transpiring for.
Some of the comments aren't helpful & some contradict what a true "street car" is.
I'm not singling you out at all Seb, but some of the comments made throught this subject incl yourself don't make any sense.
Especially about the towing comment.
You have to realize that on a large scale VW's both air & watercooled aren't all that reliable once modified.
They also aren't all that reliable either once you start to punish them hard. Yes they might be fine on the street & for daily duties, but once
they're loaded up on a super sticky surface with 5000+rpm launches, they give out. (Alot of cars do!!!)
They just can't be abused like most cars ie Holdens & Fords where you can drive your 500+hp Streeter on a 7hr round trip to a track, punish the
living christ out of for 3-4 days, smash 10 sets of tyres, then drive it home without a hiccup!
There are people that tow "bone stock beetles" to these events.
Does this make it a drag car, even though its completely bone stock on Historic Reg & gets regularly street driven?
How does driving a street car to an event, then spending an hour to strip the living hell out of it removing seats, trims, exhausts, headlights (cold
air intakes) & what ever else you can remove, make it a true street car?
This would just make it a drag car with rego & plates wouldn't it? As its no longer RWC!
So for eg.
When my car was running & completely RWC, I was doing 800-1000km a week for daily duties & was really my only car at the time. I'd do more
km's in 6 months, than what most would ever do in there "weekend" cars in a lifetime of ownership!
All I'd change on it to race would be fit a wider/stickier set of drive tyres, that were still 100% street legal & still sat under the guards.
I'd also remove the spare wheel & jack as this is a safety requirement at nearly every race track. (a car without a spare wheel is still classed
as RWC. If the car has a spare which is bald etc, then its classed as unRWC. In VIC anyway)
Race it (best of 12.99@107mph). Full steel, weight, glass etc etc.
Then refit the original wheels, spare wheel, jack, wash off the rubber & carry on with daily duties.
But cause I trailered it to & from the race track, you'd class it as a drag car & not a street car! Even though its still 100% RWC & all
I've changed is to wider front street legal RWC tyres.
I like many others have found that VW drivetrains aren't the best/strongest items going around & also extremely dislike being left stranded on
many occasions with broken parts after a hard launch either on the street or race track! Especially a ways from home.
Not all of us have the luxury of having a race track within 10-15mins from them.
I know I don't! My nearest track is a 3hr round trip. The next furthest is a 7hr round trip!
This is the reason why alot of people tow their cars. To avoid this painful exercise.
Also on another comment made earlier by someone else in regards to driving a car 15km before hand to prove its a street car.
Just about most "drag cars" can do this! Even non rad. cooled blown alky cars can do this!!!
This is why HOTROD Mag in the US started "Drag Week".
1000+miles, 5 days, 5 tracks & not a trailer in sight!!!
The only trailers are the ones being towed by the cars racing, which carry all their parts, equipment etc etc.
This is a test of true "street cars" incl 6, 7 & many 8 sec true "street cars"
Unfortunately for OZ, we don't have the luxury of having a bunch of drag strips close together.
My idea of a true "street car" (which is also on par with alot of OS "street car"class racing guidelines)
Full weight, steel, glass, regular street driven duties, race it as you drive it on the street bar a set of drive tyres. But still have to be DOT
tyres. EG Mickey T ET streets, M&H's, Hoosiers etc etc. Pump fuel, full exhaust & items removed for safety requirements. IE. spare wheel,
personal belongings.
Doesn't matter how it gets to & from the race track. Kudo's to the few that do drive to & from though.
Couldn't give a rats about engineers & rwc BS. Cause you'd always be able to pick something thats not RWC on any car (incl. brand new cars!!!)
or requires an engineers. Eg. new cars with aftermarket intercoolers, non compliant US spec brake hoses & crap like that, to non-compliant larger
capacity engine swaps & power adders.
Eg. going from a stock 60hp 1600cc T1 to a 120hp 1600cc T1 technically requires an engineers. As there is a performance increase of 100%! This will
also require uprated seating, seatbelts, brakes, suspension etc etc etc.
My 2 cents.
My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

Unfortunately water-cooled owners don't seem to support vw only events in large numbers. There are a few who do compete but the thing that
disappoints me is that I know there are a lot of fast water cooled cars out there but very few are interested in actually competiting!! It was good to
see Guy Harding at warwick this year keeping the air cooled guys honest with the golf r!!
As far as rules go keep it simple stupid!!
One class for forced induction and one for n/a, one for vw other powered.
Radial tyres, mufflers, relevant rego and roadworthy items.
Anybody with any sort of vw knowledge can look at a car and tell whether it falls inthe appropriate category.

after reading through all of this thread, i concluded that some people did not read the subject heading.
they come up with Gene Berg, who cares, no one owns the rights on what cars in what states can have in
they're car, if its registered,............its obvious,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,its registered. DUH any VW.
Mr Sweetman asked a BASIC question, oh people started bringing rules in, must go by Berg Trophy
you know what i say to that #$%^ off. seems as though some of these Sydney guys want to own the giver of
Titles.........
You run your car where ever, if its fastest street, well...SAY NO MORE
JESUS, some of your guys need to grin and bear it and swallow some pride.
thats my 10 cents worth.

How about getting pulled over by the Police & D.O.T. on your way to Willowbank, get checked out all over - continue on & run a low 11, drive
home. Not to mention air conditioning on & cruise control working
