1200 D engines
Hello
A query about a 1200 engine. There were some D code engines produced I think for poverty pack type models in europe well after the 1300s and 1500s
were introduced. I believe these were the same as the earlier 1200 40HP engines, maybe with an improvement to oil gallerys but heads/crank etc all
the same.
Can anyone confirm that one way or the other?

Yes 1200D came out in the 68-72 1200 standard, maybe later cars as well.
The formular V guys liked them.
I think they had all those improvements and even the heads were improved some how.
Apparently they went a lot better than the early 1200s.

Thanks for the replies, confirms what I suspected. I've come across a double carb kit that was made for a 1200 D engine and I just wanted to check
it was OK for my '63 1200.
As it is just oil galleries/cam bearings etc it should be fine.

you can fit twin carbs to any 1200. The original Okrasa kit was sold way back in the 50's so way b4 the D type case.

Those D 1200 Beetles were sold in Euro bugs well into the mid 80s.
The 70s onward 1200 blocks have the later dual relief oil system but still the old single port oil cooler, but the intake manifolds are still the old
flat 1200 style so the carbs would fit if they are 40hp 1200 pattern.

Well I've picked up the (partial) kit - riechert manifolds, correct jets etc for 28PCIs, linkage brackets, mounting studs etc. Just have to get two
28PCI carbs and make or buy a linkage arm. Riechert are still around so should be able to pick up the linkage arm from him.
I'll have to do something with the air cleaners as well. Being a ghia the decklid springs get in the way, that will be a trial and error thing I
think at the time. I'll post a photo when they turn up.
