New Beetle headlights

Some one managed to clip my wife's New beetle

Luckily 99.9% of the damage is a cracked headlight cover.

There seem to "stick" on

Anyone got any experience here??
Hopefully it isn't a whole new headlight??

Generally new cars come as a complete sealed unit as the glass is bonded to the light casing with similar to windscreen adhesive sealant.

IF you can buy the glass by itself then it's just a case of carefully prying the glass off and gluing the new one in :) you ever seen the special windscreen seal breaking tool?

this is just a plastic cover that is black gooped onto the silver lining casing bit. no glass at all :borg:

It is not hard to take off at all - it just peeled away??

Yes please - but they need to be late ones
Ours is 2008.
Apparently the first model is different

if they pull off that easy then just a case of checking the plastic lens is available by itself. Good motor factor or VW dealer can help you there :)

That is the problem - the lens isnt available as it doesnt pull off.
Well - it does. But it isnt suppose to.
It could/should be available

My 2004 model had just the (plastic) lense that you could replace. I thought they looked the same as the later ones but obviously not.

Good luck with it.

It came from VW. My panel beater ordered it in for me and fitted it. He actually broke the seal of the old one when re-fitting the light itself after he re-painted my front bumper to get rid of a bubble in the paint caused by some acid being dropped on it by the dealer when it was in for service.

mmmm........VW only sell complete units.

But the parts cattle dog shows that it is a separate piece.

Reckon I will just see what I can pick up second hand
hopefully get a cheap early one and pull the lens off and just use that

Coletrickle - will be interested in what you can find

Go to another dealer. He only sells complete units.

VW sells the cover.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

I tried Barlow and Chatswood Classic.
I have also googled parts in US and no luck.

If anyone knows a dealer that does sell them please tell me as it is $400 for a whole unit.

to be honest $400 for a headlight aint THAT bad (ish)

Been offered $160 for a 2nd hand early but I think I will wait and see what my son's GF can do.
She is an apprentice spray painter at a shop
Hopefully trade is a fair bit better

Got to love the plastic guarde though :tu:

Try a late nite call to a UK dealer. I did this for new seals for Golf VR6 caliper seals as no-one in Oz said they were obsolete and only a new caliper was available. Tho how do you make a new caliper without the seals? Anyway, Dealer in Gillingham, Kent came up trumps and sent them over. Was less than $20 a side for seal and dust cover inc postage :)

All of the parts come from the same place.

If they sell them in Norway, China or Canada, then they sell them here.

It's just the Australian VW dealers are the problem.

Yes but I've found Oz businesses are pretty bad at using a lot of effort for little financial gain. I tried all the VW dealers and local motor factors for my seals with no luck from the motor factors and no help from the dealers.

If he's having no luck here then no harm is making an international call if it helps him out.

glass? you mean plastic.

usally the plastic or glass for early 90s cars and older, is clipped on, though I think later 90s to currect maybe glued on with a plastic cement which means it will break if you try to pull it apart.

new head light for you.

pick one up at the wreckers for 20-50 bob or so.
