Its raining on my parade
It's nice to get a bit of rain, but this is ridiculous!
For those of you with deck lid stand-offs i need your help! How do you guys go about keeping things nice and dry in weather like this? Especially when
you are out and about with no undercover parking?
I was thinking about getting a friend of mine to whip me up a set of carb covers (for twin 40s with K&N type oval filters) out of a tarp or
something so they don't get filled with water when my car is parked outside. Or maybe get myself one of those waterproof car covers that are made in
the shape of a beetle?? what's the risk of water getting in generally while driving around? i have a bad feeling that the gutters will channel the
water right onto where the air filters sit
i get my car back on tuesday and with crappy weather like this i'm paranoid that i'm going to end up with carbs full of water, wet electrics, and a
soggy engine bay
maybe someone has looked at this problem differently and come up with an interesting solution?
Cheers,
Farhan

Put a plastic ice cream container over the carbs.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Maybe swap the stand offs for this style
http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=96229&page=1#pid895480
Or if you have "fixed" stand offs and want to stay that way - at least swap to "hoodjax"
I also kept some plastic bags, and put those over the filters
Helps a lot if you have a bell crank linkage as the hex bar gets in the way
Also google pics of 914's as I have seen a lot of 914's with nifty covers as they have the same problem as stock
You could always just put a CSP air box on

Love the airbox idea .... a little pricey though.
Ice cream buckets are also a cool idea! .. any particular brand of ice-cream you could recommend?
The tarp idea is definitely a goer too. Thanks guys!
Bizzaire - any idea if the 914 style covers are made for beetles? also i did see the stand off in the post you highlighted ... the top opening ones
just look soo much cooler

Hi Farhan,
My deck lid was propped out with hoodjax.
There is nothing like heavy rain and a deck lid propped open to cause anxiety!
The key is plenty of plastic, and then keeping it in place, so the plastic sheets and bags don't blow away.
I use to put 2 plastic shopping bags over each aircleaner and one bag over the distributor.
Then I would fold a large plastic ground sheet over the top of the engine. The idea being that water would drain to the sides and run off the rear
fenders.
And... another smaller ground sheet was tucked in under the rear vent line, and ran over the over top of the deck lid. The platic ran half way down
the deck lid and was tucked in under the left and ride side of the deck lid.
It worked, but it didn't solve the my anxiety when the car was outside in heavy rain.
Perhaps, spending $850 on the CSP cold air intake isn't such a bad idea!

Thanks Zayus. I pick my car up tomorrow so hopefully it stays nice and clear. first thing i'm going to do is go and buy a tarp from supercheap or
bunnings the paranoia and anxiety is the worst part of it all really.
haha the things we do to be cool
Bizzaire - i saw pics of that but could only seem to find ones for the porsche. do they even make a bettle one?, coz that would be awesome!
