Car theft at Loganholme Hyperdome, be warned! open discussion and swearing

My car got stolen yesterday at the loganholme bus station. I parked it, got back from work, and it wasn't there! I scanned the car park 3 times, no luck.

Long story short, after much anxiety (as its not insured for theft as its an import and RACQ don't do theft for imports and i'm not 25 yet to get Shannons), the police called me at 11.35 pm to tell me they found the car, intact in Rochdale, opposite a buddhist temple (surely it wasn't monks that pinched it!).

I picked it up, and drove it home.
Long story short, this morning dropping it off at the bus station again, i sabotaged the car so it couldn't be started (unless its a pro thief, whom wouldn't bother with an 86' rusty celica), and i left this note on either door windows incase they happened to pass by.

This car theft is a growing thing it seems! bloody mongrels! For all local logan dubbers, old cars seem to be growing in being victims to scum and scoundrels alike. The time to take procautions is now! This weekend i'm going to install a hidden kill switch.

I guess for dubbers, those locking shifters would be ideal, as i found yesterday, its certainly an unexpected massive inconvenience. If anyone has any other suggestions, this is an open discussion.

Chicken scratch translation: Translation: To the THIEF! To the car thief who stole my vehicle (this one) yesterday (13th February 2013), thank you for not taking any parts or contents & parking it neatly in Rochdale. BUT you caused me GREAT stress, a sleepless night & anxiety. A police report has been submitted at Loganholme police station. I have even taken precautions so this car is sabotaged so it can't be started, EVEN WITH A KEY! It is not insured as RACQ doesn't do theft for imports. THINK! About what you are doing to people when you act like a criminal. Yours sincerely & Fuck You, Christopher.

Wow, that letter is sure to see it stolen and burnt now!

I'm scared to drive through Logan, let alone park my car there!

You are very very lucky Chris, but be very careful making your car an even bigger target.

Thanks for all the tips guys,
yea its a hard balance between stirrin em' up to do worse, but want them to know that they shouldn't do it again. I don't know how to draw the line there, as the door lock barrels will always be so vulnerable due to excessive wear, and i can't afford to replace em (i got a vw engine to build! Priorities right lol)

I had a long hard think last night, and if it got stolen and i were to get an insurance payout it would certainly assist in easing to wound.

I will price around. Might try just cars. The original reasons for doing RACQ for 3rd party property was the 'pay by the month' offer during my uni bum days last year, but that will obviously not do.

I got some hidden celica specific relays out that will keep em' scratching there heads if they try to rob it again, and the looms been butchered to house a later ecu/motor, so even if they tap into the ignition barrel or follow a wiring diagram, theres no way unless they are uber bright (but if they were bright, they wouldn't necessarily be pertaining to petty theft :P given a stolen celica isn't the words biggest pay day haha)

Pisses me off the hyperdome security chain/fence up the bitumen car parks leaving the bus commuters to park in the vulnerable dust bowl. I will never be game enough to leave the baja there.

UPDATE:

Cancelled the policy with RACQ. They have a section i saw online now called "Classic & Unique Cars" where they detail cover for imports. However, they couldn't do the celica as they only do certain imports :S.

Anyways, with Just Car now, started a policy for it and was fairly straight forward. $303 for 12 months with fire/theft.

So! The excess is $600 (standard) + $450 (for male aged between 22 and 24, i'm 24), thus if it gets stolen, i will be lucky to have change left over of about $500, and that can then go to a bicycle and a tough padlock  Beats being empty handed anyways.

Try this kill switch

Yep, nearly had my van stolen as my office is just down the road. Parked it overnight and some poor fool broke in to it and tried to start it. Busted my ignition and left a mess etc. funny thing was there was no battery connected. I felt violated too. Someon likes toyotas in the area. The hyper dome is just a car yard for thieves and dodgy drivers that ding your car. Dont get mad get even..... ....?...?.. I dobbed in a guy who was trying to break into cars a another place in Brisbane. It felt good to know the two cops looked into it right away. Hopefully someone's belongings where saved or car saved being stolen.

My 5 cents

So if the value is only $1500 give or take, is it worth spending $300 a year to insure it? Maybe just give it the "in case I rear end a Porsche" policy and not worry about the theft insurance - if it gets stolen after the first year you are no better off anyway. I'm pretty sure full comprehensive on my 73 bay is only $400 or so a year.

The only POS car I've ever insured comprehensively was a crappy 87 model SAAB because the comprehensive was actually cheaper than the TPPDFT cover, through the same insurer. The car got written off and for a car that cost $2000, because it was European and a luxury car, even though it was a piece of junk, the face value paid out was $7k, the damage done was so minor (only a 40km/h impact) but the repair quote was over $11k so instant write off.

Generally the insurer is the only winner.

hardly but it would still get me $500, which is enough to buy another POS car and then i'd do the relevant repairs for rwc or assist somewhat towards saving for the next. The celica was $450, it was in a far worse state but got it rwc-ed in its basic undignified form and built it up to something mechanically sound sand safe over the years. The 'theft' component of Just Cars 3rd party property was only an extra $95 so break even point for them is just after 5 years if I never claim theft within the 5 years. Not toooo bad. Mind you, the payout will be $400 more by the time August hits, as i'll be 25 then.

I did the math and the old RACQ cover was $35 a month for 12, so totals to $420. Although you pay for hte luxury of pay by the month which was the only viable way for the poor uni student of yester-year lol.
