Thanks Damo & I've come across that site in my search.

I was hoping I could pick up a good 2nd hand set in Aust for less $$ as the baby stroker/gearbox build is draining the toy money at the moment..

(I missed this set last year by hours..):

Sorry chaps, but I needed them!

I gave away a set, too Daimo, when I said I would not have another VW........about 25 years ago.:grind:

I'll never learn!!!!!!

sorry daimo, bluey is loving the Koni's, that's the problem with Koni's, they rarely will be sold second hand as they last so well, are fully rebuildable and they work so well. Good luck with your search.....

ps Daimo if you need them back we can organise something I'm sure,,,,, :)

Either
Koni's, quality, rebuildable, adjustable
Bilstein, quality, rebuildable, not adjustable but have patented valving that is piston speed variable ie. the harder the bump, the harder the valving, cheaper than Koni.

Personally I think Koni's are better for softer set-ups, Billy's for harder set-up or rougher roads (dirt etc.)

I have never run Bilsteins so cant comment but someone who runs them on his oval and type 3 swears by them.
I had koni's on an irs pan under and early beetle with whiteline adjustables and it was about as good as it gets.
I could get one of the front wheeels off the ground when hitting corners super hard with confidence.
The ride was firm but they dont make the car feel like its about to break in half..

I have a pair of irs koni's on the back of my current fairly slammed swing axle bug and the second they went on the thing handled better but they are squeaking due to being on a bit of an angle due to the wider mount (and I think the rebound is set diffently??)
I'm hoping a full set will help tame the 4.5 narrowed beam at 110+km/hr :)

Have you tried Toperformance in Vermont, Victoria? They are the Australian agents for Koni and may be able to source some. They are still in the Koni catalogue so you could also try some overseas suppliers which may be cheaper. I have Konis on my '68 and they are great. If you do manage to source some second hand ones, check the shafts carefully for wear because if the shafts are very worn, Topers cannot rebuild them.

Not in Aus but at US$111.52 each they are a bargain. 356 and early beetle front Koni's are the same rears are different.

Highly recommend Brad at NLA top vendor so good Stoddards bought him out.

Cheers
