1959 Bug Freshen up
Hi All , After many years sitting i have gotten enthused recently and deceided to give the bug a birthday and tie up the loose ends that were never
quite done or could have been done.
I first got the bug when my Sister bought the bug in 1983 from the first owner, She drove it till she squashed it in 1989 ish, being in such good
condition less than 30'000 mls we deceided to buy it off the ins company for $100 and use it for my first car.
Well all it got was a body repair and paint and doner 40hp, since the car that rear ended her smashed the generator into the fan and broke off the oil
filler stand.
I thought id do a breif show of the tidy up.

Bug after a polish, Last rego ran out in 2005

Doner 40hp still goes good but not era correct

engine out

In with the new 36hp year correct serial,Okrasa kit,Blue Screamer Dizzy,& Arbath Exaust, Porsch 12v 90mm generator.

6v/12v Hybrid Starter.
As car was converted to 12v when we rebuilt it i Converted the 36hp. My 40hp had been running on the orig 6v starter for 22 years on 12v.
I think this will be all for now, thinking of putting it in the SA Bug in in a few months, should be a nice drive down from the Riverland at that time
of year

Chris, Id been looking around for a complete one to rebuild as i had no engine at all, but just happened to see this one within the first hour of
being put on ebay, the engine was what you see and has only done 3000mls since rebuild, perfect and bloody lucky find.
But i did find while looking, http://www.vwengines.com.au/ this guy is a great
help, he found a source of complete 36hps to rebuild , was going to be a good price too turn key rebuild.

To be honest ,coz I've had this so long and never had another I have only my tired 40 hp to compare , but put it this way it pulls through the gears
and actually has some pickup now. Now I'd be confident to overtake another car. They say this kit gives around 50hp.

Vwfive, got them both from the US , there is a place that rebuilds starters , alt, generators. They also sell via eBay, search for. 6-12 volt
conversion and they should come up. In the description they say use for converting early bugs to 12 volt. These are genuine Porsche genis , all recond
bolts strait in. If you can't find it ill get the link for you
