I think US Post have decided it is their job to single-handedly improve the economy, in the USA.

Mike I use US post when i can, or when I need it fast, UPS.
I have found DHL and Fedex to be way cheaper than UPS
but DHL has very poor service at this end so have ditched them in favour of UPS.
All the above, including US post, do have "prepaid boxes" that are pretty good value, and similar prices-per-weight,
which works well for smaller items.

Shipping inside US is pretty cheap, like you said Dave I used the " If it fits it ships box " to send a Kennedy Double disc setup to another state
and the cost was $13.00 . The box I wanted to send to UK was a 9x7x8 , they wanted $115.00 to ship it and it weighed less than the clutch setup. Mike

USPS all the way to here. Last thing was a clutch inner basket and plates/fibres for my Vmax and a few extras, box was 12"x9"x3", cost me $40, took
9 days from order.
But, sending to Euro might be worth looking at DHL, since it's their home town sorta.
