I purchased two new oval front guards from overseas for my 61 Beetle and they are different (sold them).

Hope that helps, Kev

!!!!!! All I can think of Kev is the oval guard's didn't have hole's in the top of it for the narrow 61 indercator, but your car doesn't have indercator's on the top, so was it the swage line's between the bolt hole's or the steel tube that run's the headlight wire's to the body.

Neither of these difference's would stop these guard's fitting any beam front bug early or late.

If the guard's from OS were black Mexican one's, yes the bolt hole's don't all line up but can be fixed with a file or air tool.

Headlight heights are different. Area where running boards meet the front guards are different. Rears are much the same to look at.

I ended up repairing my original guards and filled in the indicator hole.

The difference I found was that the oval guards were not as wide as my originals and as you can see with my wider wheels the oval replacements would have rubbed. Also as mentioned where the running board met the guard, was slightly different.
