Presently I have the engine and trans out of my bug, replaced the diff and stuck in some HD axles. While it's on the hoist I've also stripped the frontend stubs for a king-pin freshen up, some front end support with some modified CSP braces and also a little body work on a ugly bit of cancer getting attended to......we got a few day's yet before Valla right????

Yeah, Matt, it's a big effort to prepare a car for Valla [Raleigh]. Ol' No.8 Beetle is still in the trailer, however I managed to get the dipstick out and check the oil. The bloody tyres needed a bit of air, so I had to drag the air line out and take off the valve caps.....and screw them back on !

It seemed OK at Wakefield Park a couple of months ago, so I won't muck about with it. :D

Cut out the rusty front bumper mount, welded in new metal.

Found a huge, unexpected rust section under the passenger door, did some surgery - not much original metal left there! The whole section was full of expanding foam, most of it wet.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa27/spazo77/My%20Car/97BA6238-FD87-46F1-A774-69D176527BA5.jpg

Did some panel beating to the passenger door after discovering a crease that was covered filled with putty, the bottom of the door was way outa line so whacked it with a hammer a few times - now nice and straight (as can be seen in above photo)

New plugs, 5 minutes for the first 3, 20 minutes to fit the cap back on the last one, should have checked that the rubber insert had come out with the plug socket  makes it damned hard to get the cap on the plug with the rubber insert still on the plug. Gunna change my name to Richard Cranium.

progress been slow for the last couple of years, been getting tougher and tougher with the cost of living going up so much.

I officially have to put my projects aside now , got news my boss has closed the business and how going out of work in the next few weeks.

job opportunities look very grim indeed! nothing but nursing, child care and accounting 100k radius around my area. hmmm? this sucks can't move forward at all with my notch. On the bright side I don't have to go to melbourne anymore  what a dump! or even worse sydney.

I need to stop lifting up carpet and taking off panels... :sniffle:

But at least there's progression.

And with only one panel left to remove there can't be too much rust left to find.

Fitted a dipstick temperature sender and wired it in. Lo and behold, finally an oil temperature reading, unlike the silly sender unit in the oil pan.

Tidied up the wiring in the engine bay while I was at it.
