yeah Al brings them in from the Uk , it's a sweet piece of kit, everything fits perfectly. I would love to drive a bug with one, not many are prepared to drop big coin though.

I started hunting around for them after this, the mendeola ones are perdy. $5500 for front and rear though, I think I need to start saving, haha.

Took "Otis" for the pink slip roadworthy check, and he passed easily.
Seeing as it is school holidays we celebrated by heading down to Macksville and having a picnic by the river. Top day!

well over the week end when I had my oval out the speedo clocked over to 90,000 miles. I've had the bug since Aug 05 so today I checked to see just how many miles I've done each year since then.
2006 travelled 2613 miles
2007 travelled 4222 miles
2008 travelled 5528 miles
2009 travelled 3509 miles
2010 travelled 4156 miles
2011 travelled 1051 miles
2012 travelled 3008 miles
2013 travelled 1230 miles
2014 travelled 3082 miles
and from Aug till now 815 miles
a total of 29,214 miles 46,742.4klm

I do own a few cars so I think this is a good effort for my toy, not my daily driver.

Cut another hole from whats left of the metal :(
Belted out some new sheet metal and shaped it to fit.
(I was going to leave this repair as the last job -have the window removed and do it properly- but figured a way to weld and protect the rubber)

My welding skills aren't the best but they are getting better now I have a Mig (much better than ARC)

I'm close to having the whole car prepped for paint! By next week I should be smoothing out the spray putty. :)

Went a bit further than I had originally planned, but from here on in it's easier to see what you've got, and do it once I spose.
Also it's always nice to consider possible options while it's apart.

Question: What's the difference in performance on the highway between a twin-IDF'd 2276 and a centremount 1689?
Option 1:

Option 2:

Only joking!
No really!
Well, mostly.........sorta.........

Gave Otis an oil change, degrease and a clean. Then my daughter Olivia and I drove to Nambucca using as much of the Old Pacific Hwy as we could. When I was a teenager in the '70s we lived at Nambucca, I used to work in the family bakery on school holidays, when we took smoko at about 1 or 2 in the morning we used to see the V8 paper trucks fly by. They'd bellow up the hill to Bowra Street, along with the semi trailer juggernauts on this road. Good times.

Often see you out and about in Otis. We passed a couple weeks ago with my son learning to drive in the stock beetle. Should get a cruise together organised one day

I gave my hotty beetle a much needed oil change and valve adjustment this weekend too.

Today (well, yesterday actually, close enough!) I went through 3 brushes, all ten fingernails, and 2L of degreaser, and got my heads all cleaned up.
Good news! No cracks anywhere.

Oh, and a toy box showed up in the mail, with bits for the heads in it, WOO!HOO!

Started the recarpet in the cab, looks like I picked the wrong type as it isn't as flexible as I hoped to get around the curves and bends, no biggie as the same carpet is available in unbacked to do the bendy bits. Fitted the retractable lap / sash belts in the back to replace the lap only (.ive now got a spare set of retractable genuine VW laps for sale 😄 ) fitted the new carpet in the space behind the rear seat.
Question... Is there supposed to be some sort of cover to the back of the back seat, there was none there when I bought it but when the seat is folded forward it exposes the internals of the seat, looks shite

Ive been really slack since the vw spectacular last year. To the point of considering selling the lot

Grouchy beetle has been a prick to get started so today it was spark plugs, ignition leads, intake gaskets, carby clean. Also change brake fluid and needed new bumpstops on the front.

So touch wood, should be ready for the Sawtell winter break.

We can have a cruise then Rob and get the feelers out for some more coffee cruizes?!
