Ok I pulled out the dash board to look a fuel gauage problem and then when reassembled the battery light has stay on when running. Is there something I have bumped that may have caused this behind the dash?

In order for the battery light to operate it has to earth (through the alternator/generator).

Is there another wire resting on that blade plug of the globe holder or something causing it to earth?

This is assuming its a classic bug etc.

Does the oil light and gen light still come on when you turn the ignition on (engine not running)?

If no you have no power to the warning light circuit, that causes the gen light to come on once the engine starts.

Hmmm, I used to touch the wiring... Until I realised that every time I do, something like this happens! I avoid going near it now!
