A little tip, Chris - crack test the inlet manifolds. I didn't do mine after the 'roll', as they looked OK.

After a frustrating time trying to get the car running properly at the Valla lap dash, the problem revealed itself [with some help from WaynePenrose]......a broken inlet manifold.:grind:

I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Hey Chris,

Sorry to hear about your car dude. Not much you could have done. There were so many things to hit on that course.

Your car was nice and sounded awesome. What a shame.

It's a good thing you're fit. That was a hard it. I'm glad you're ok. It looks like the helmet, seat and roll cage all helped you walk away.

I was enjoying your videos. It was good to see a beetle in those events.

Regards CT

have a look on the corner that i stacked it on ,look at where the barriers are on the outside of the corner making you drive a sharper line...

and what is the go with running targas on open roads but its a nightmare to get a club event for one day and only 1-2 kms long get the go ahead,,,ggggrrrrr...enough ranting i think i just found a bug just making a few phone calls then deciding....

Barriers are there to protect the spectators and the ones in question are positioned well off the track, well past the corner and regardless of their angle Chris would have sustained the same amount of damage IMO. How many other cars hit or came close to hitting the same barrier ?

Learn from the video, and work on your driving style to minimise the possibility of it happening again....thats my tough love advice.

Good attitude, Chris. As Craig said, learn from your mistakes......and if you ever hit that barrier again, expect to cop heaps on here:yes:

sorry craig i dont agree that is a lapse of judgement on the stewards call maybe not enough money available for barriers? as in takes less at 90 to cover the run off?

Yeah it's ok I'm going out to have a look again. It's pretty straight, the bonnet on the right side does not line up perfect with the front quarter pannel so I'm going to suds that out again, but hay for $1000 should I be that fussy

Black heh what a good colour for a race car.
Glad to hear your spirit is up again, now you get to do all the things you wish you had done on your first car, plus apply all your experience and knowledge on this car, just better.:tu:

Better change the head studs on side that u broke the carb off when i modified the back of my lbug,to look like an alfasud at oran park, reversed it in ito wall coming onto the straight, after a few rounds it started breaking head studs a must check should have replaced it with an Lbug strut front car real steering lock ,much easier to catch that rascal when it goes sideways, glad ur ok, get off the forum and get into the garage and get started cheers Rudi
