small tyres on the front? good/bad?

hi, I have a 1970 Beetle and it has big tyres on it. Not massive, more standard really anf it already has drop spindles on the front
I would love it just that little bit lower with the aid of smaller tyres.I understand the height won't be altered heaps, but i dont particularly like the look of these bigger ones on the front. Especially seeing as the later models already stick up a bit at the front

Is it a good or bad thing to do? will it affect mileage or will it damage the car? any advice would be great?

Thanks Josh

Go for it.

Your speedo will read a touch higher, but that is only a good thing. If it starts showing 3% higher, then you are less likely to be caught speeding if you unknowingly creep 3% over the limit.

Me too, 135's work for me, as with any tyre, run around 20PSI for a good foot print

wow thanks for the response guys!

Do these numbers refer to a number on the tyre? is there any actual type of tyre i should go for?

and that'll be fun with the speedo considering its in miles per hour at the moment...haha:crazy:

by the way... with drop spindles already fitted, do you think that i would be able to go over speed bumps with '135' tyres?

Keep in mind you will have a little less surface area to stick to the roads in wet weather conditions, so keep an eye on their condition and naturally drive with caution.

You may need to ring around and see what your local tyre specialists can order in for you if they don't have them in stock.

PS: Speed humps are never tackled head on ;)

Done the same. , drop spindles, use kombi 14s they are also 5 inch and set out to the guard nicely. This lets you put a decent tire on it and takes the scrape out of it. I'm running 165s

I think I'm going to get 145's on the front with the drop spindles that I already have on there, would this require changing the springs or suspension on the front?
