Chrysler PT Cruiser - Anyone had any experience with one of these?
Wife is pretty keen on a PT Cruiser that is for sale locally, has anyone had any experience with one of these? Good , bad or other wise.
2001 model 133000kms for less than $4,500.
Cheers
Brendan

Based on a chrysler neon chassis. My folks had a neon and a friend owns a PT Cruiser..The 2lt with autos are only 3 speed and they are both stupid
money for parts. My folks sold the neon and bought a new mazda 2..It out performs the neon and is only a 1.5 ..lol. Personally I'd steer clear.

We had one for 6 years from new 2000 - 2006, wife drove it 100 Klm's a day to work & back plus numerous trips up & down the east coast. We
never had a problem, it was always serviced every 10k, that was probably the key.
She drove it with a bit of right foot as well. We enjoyed it, but was no good for all the stuff required with young kids,

What is your experience with the PT Cruiser ian.mezz?
Personally I don't like them but I would'nt comment because I've never owned one or had experience with one.

Well I'm glad you know car stuff !!
If you read the complaints online about any car you'd be riding a bicycle, you certainly would'nt own an old VW.
There's nothing like actually owning a car and there's some good comments already from someone who has actually owned one for 6 years.
I'm sure Brendan has read the complaints that's why he has asked for people to comment who actually had experience with a PT Cruiser - not just
comments from someone who "knows car stuff".

Thanks for the comments (good & bad), as has been said for each bad experience you read there is usaully an equally good experince out there, feedback I have recieved from people that actually have owned one has
been very positive. They are not every bodies cup of tea & i
was quite prepared for the "dont buy them they are crap" comments, comes with asking this type of question on an open forum. The car I am looking at has its faults (it's 10+ yrs old) so thats to
be expected.
I dont particularly like the front seating position, but wifey does. Most reports say they are under powered, i drive a 1300cc beetle, wife currently
drives a 1600cc pulsar, so pwer is not really a concern to me never has been really. It has plenty of room, is not you run of the mill A to B car. Probably wont end up buying it due to the fact that I think the
clutch will need replacing shortly (high pedal on a hydrualic
clutch means its pretty well shagged right???). But other than that it pretty much suits our current needs & budget.
There's 5 or 6 of them running around taree at the moment, perhaps they migrate here when they are fucked?????
next option is a 2002 mazda SP20 hatch with 150000kms on the clock........please dont tell me they are crap too

Brendan, I remember the clutch pedal being high on ours , drive it, get it inspected, make your own decision.
I don't like Bay windows, but others do, can think of lots of reasons not to buy one...........but that's only MY opinion , if you know what I mean
!
When I showed this thread to my wife the other day, she said straight away " that's cheap, hasn't got many K's on it " ,
Like any USED car, they can & do have problems, every car is used the day AFTER you get it , some are still good though .... & some are not,

Had one as a rental for three months when i worked in Canada. I hated it, slow, foot flat to the floor to get any where. Do not buy one. Worst car
i have ever driven.
This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

at least if you buy a popular make car, parts are easier to buy.
all cars are made to wear out, as car makers are in business of selling new cars.
the age thing is against you , 10 years is a bit to old.
the main theing is do your home work.
check service history and maintenance. timing belts etc.
and that every thing works A/C, POWER WINDOWS , ETC
Its like having a bet , you maybe lucky and back a winner.
I think the Sp is the sporty model, so you may pay a bit more for the firm ride and front strut top brace .

In the USA they have many oht shops dedicated to PT Cruisers. These shops replace the low powered engines with what the car should have had from the
manufacturer- a V6 or V8. Pity the trend with some makers is to produce a terrific looking vehicle without the driveline to match.
I too was attracted to buying a PT. It resembles hot rod looks and a neat dash. It is a sexy machine. Unfortunately its mechanics dont shape up to it
being a wise decision IMO. Hence I let it go. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, had a quote from the nearest chrysler workshop & they said labour alone for the clutch would be in the vicinity of $1000 + cost of
parts, which works out more than a quarter of the cost of the car. So at this stage it's a no go.
Cheers Brendan

Hi
I don't have any faith in the build quality or reliability of any American car, Jeep, Voyagers etc. The Japanese build much better cars.
Regarding E10 91, if you look carefully there are still servos selling non E10 91, my local BP does.
