WTB : NSW: Camber Control Arm or Rear Sway Bar


I am after a camber control arm or rear sway bar to suit a swing axle type beetle

Be carefull fitting a sway bar to a swing axle rear end, the bar actually promotes rear wheel tuck, a camber compensator is made for a swing axel rear end

Rod Penrose has some going cheap at the moment!! Get in contact with greg mackey(happydaze). He is a wizz on swing axel tuning. had the pleasure of seeing his setup recently. He should be able to point you in the right direction!!!

Fitting a 'camber compensator', without re-setting the rear torsion bars would be a waste of time.



I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Wayne races a swing axle rear with a sway bar to success and I have also driven one as well and that are fine. Off the shelf camber compensators suck unless you build a mackie one, but more work then just bolting up a sway bar...my 2c

I had sway bar on a swng axel car for about twenty minutes, took it off after a big dose of oversteer when the rear axels tucked mid corner, as for the available camber compensators, i have run these for years on both of my swing axel cars wiith out the sudden death oversteer that a sway bar promotes. Have a think how a sway bar operates, most manufacturers do not recommend fitting them.

There is a bit more to improving the swing-axle suspension than just 'whacking on' a compensating spring, or anti-roll bar.

If a lot of power is involved, lack of traction could be a problem with an anti-roll bar. A limited-slip diff. would probably be needed.

After a bit of work on the rear suspension, understeer could rear its ugly head. Then you can work on the front end.......and so on.:yes:

i found a good article on aircooled that talked about similar facets of swing arm suspention

i have konis on there atm it seemed to wriggle around a bit once i got up to 60 mph havent gone much past that atm ...

You can have a four wheel alignment, check the castor while you are at it as it might need a bit more to improve the straight line stability
