WARNING dodgy restoration

Hi all new to the forums here, unfortunately my first post has to be as follows.

Just a warning for those that may have already or are considering getting thier kombi worked on by the people advertising on gumtree from west burliegh. They are not people I have seen mentioned on these forums before.

Due to pending court action I won't go into to much detail yet but please be careful if dealing with these people.

Mods please advise if I'm doing anything wrong by posting this warning.

Edited for legal reasons.

Just to clarify I am referring to a sole trader not any of the reputable businesses in that area. And no it's not anyone associated with KIP.

I didn't think I had named them just showing people the ad to watch out for and making sure other reputable businesses were not confused with these people.

If thems the rules fair enough.

I do feel sorry for other VW owners that have left their vehicles there to be worked on.

Unfortunately that's not likely to help people when choosing who to get to do work... hindsight 20/20 and all that.

Fair enuff having safeguards to prevent legal probs, but a question to the mods - would a simple "I've had work done by X, and I wouldn't recommend them" going too far ???

As a moderator I will have a crack at answering this

First off this is an Australian site and not an overseas site.
As far as I can tell, Facebook, twitter and alot of other social media sites are based in USA - for good reason.
They have different laws and their "freedom of speech" bit
The Samba and Shoptalk are also USA based sites.

Have a read through these multitude of sites - i have had a good go at it
https://www.google.com.au/webhp?source=search_app#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&am...

As far as I can tell, here in Australia, if you defame some one you can be sued. Maybe not successfully, but dont know if anyone has been through the court system, but I am yet to find some that said "man, that was fun!"

In many cases the claim is bought anonymously by a poster that we have no idea if it is legit or not.
For all you know, they are the ex in a bitter divorce or custody battle

Yes, ACA and other "investigative journalist" (hah!) shows name names.
They have an army of legal people backing them up and they research the hell out of it (hah!) before they go to air.

And they spend their life in court as a result of it.

Until someone can prove otherwise, I for one, will be erring on the side of safety.

Happy to be proved wrong, but not to be told that someone else "thinks" it should be allowed

I completely understand the mods concerns here.

Defamation doesn't take place when it's factual however there may be an issue of tortious interference hence I have only given my opinion.

I will try and get some pictures up showing where panels have just been liquid nailed on. Rust already starting to show through. Paint peeling off etc etc.

I have seen two examples of kombi's that have been " restored " by a well known kombi expert in Queensland, the first one had the usual issues around the windscreen with all the bog falling out after two years not to mention that a large sum of money that was paid for the privilage, even had the sticker on the car for the resto shop advertising there handy work, the other one had been just bogged as well, one of my own cars was resprayed about two years ago and is now developing paint problems, another well known restorer, you must find other people that have had work done by the person you are concidering doing the work for you and check up on there real ability, anybody can set up with no training in paint or panel and tell every one how good they are, do your research and cost does not relate to a good job.
