Beetle 1300cc Historic Touring Car (onboard)

Horrendous tyre shake in the corners, but the old girl is getting quicker!...More races to follow so keep checking the (Just Kampers UK) YouTube channel each month for more movies.

You'll be pleased to know I've now added kph to the speedo for you foreign blokes!

I've dropped them from 8000 to 7500rpm to save the motor and ran 5 seconds quicker!

Yeppy...1285cc. I'm looking to get a 60mm crank made so I can run 83mm pistons, this will give me a 1298cc motor (within the 1300cc class limit) The extra bore will allow me to run much larger valves.

It's interesting...The BeetleChallenge cars here have anything from 1.6 to 2.4 litre type 1 engines, running Toyo semi-slicks, but the lap times are no better than me...I'm stuck with skinny (120mm, 135mm wide) 1960's historic crossply tyres.

I'm hoping to run with them this season...see how my car runs on proper tyres.

I've been told that removing the 2 rear body-to-floorpan rubber bushes (just infront of the rear dampers) and replacing them with metal spacers will cure the rear tyre shake...Anyone heard of this?

The idea is that it wil stop the rear torsion tubes (that hold the torsion bars) from flexing.

I would have thought instead of adding solid spacers that a truss-bar set-up between the frame horns and towers would be better?
Good to see you on the forum too Ian!

Cheers

So is it running the standard Vw 1300 bore and stroke, and are the heads twin port 1300 ?

Yep!...currently it is a 1285cc Twinport. The racing rules only allow single port heads (as twinports were'nt available before 1966), but I gave them an Okrasa history lesson and they let me run the (cheaper) VW twinport option.
