Inside the RLR REV6 clutch with pictures

I talked to Ron Lummis today and told him how well my clutch has held up and about the performance increase I had with it . I also sent him pictures of the componants inside and how well they have held up also. Ron gratiously gave me permission to post them so my first thought was to show my friends here and to hope some of the guys who have this setup to give me their feedback also. The setup I went with was the double disc because I run a 2387 turbo , makes 366 rwhp . I tore the clutch down for a checkver before I was going to install it into my new "STREET " car. I expected alot of scored and damaged parts, here is what I found instead,
This is the way I recieved it new,

This is a shot of the flywheel after 60 passes, notice the machine marks from the surface grinder still there,

this is the clutch disc nearest the flywheel , again look at the machine marks on the disc itself,

and the final plate,

I hope some of you find it interesting how well it has held up, you knw I babied it taking off ,LOL !!!!! Mike McCarthy

This is a picture of the clutch cover, you can see the counter weights protruding from the side,

That is awesome Mike!

If you get a chance, can you weigh one of your clutch discs?
It would be interesting to compare it with a conventional 3 or 4 puck disc.
Thanks,
DB.

I will do it tomorrow Dave, I have 50-60 passes , a whole season of racingplus test and tunes and I still have my transmission with no cracks in the gears. Mike McCarthy

Hey Dave , I am sorry I didn't get this on earlier today but I was running errands . First I measured the OD of both setups, stock was 7.875 inches , REV6 was 6.125 , so 1.750 differance. I am not an engineer so I have no idea how much differance in rotating mass it will be . If someone is a mathamatical genius do me a favor and do all these computations. The two REV6 discs are differant thicknesses , one is 700 grams the other is 800. I measured my Tilton discs ( 2) and they are 500 grams each. I measured a stock disc with springs and it weighed 900 grams. The last disc was a 3 puck and it weighed 700 . I wish I still had the Kennedy double discs , they were REAL heavy . I hope this answers your question Dave. I can tell you from experiance this clutch setup feels like a stock pressure plate and shifting is NOT a problem . Mike McCarthy

I get wood driving my 1776, in your weapon I would shit myself.
In all seriousness, I can't believe how well the kit has held up after so many runs.

There are a few local cars running the set up I assume will chime in with their experience and feedback.

Now that is funny as hell !!!!!!!! Shit your pants , no but you might want to keep a spare set of shorts handy, LOL Depending how you drove it , it is really very docile. The little FK10 cam is really mild , but with 24 -28 lbs of boost she becomes a TORQUE MONSTER !!! We have been doing this for a long time and bought parts a little bit at a time , took us many years to get where we are at . We have been building John's car for over 4 years and he may finish it this year, just have to paint it , here is an under construction picture,
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k300/dragvw2180/Johnspics495.jpg
He will have ALOT more ( over 100 more )HP than my race car did plus ladderbar suspension and we did it all in my 24 x 24 garage ourselves. When we get it done I will post the whole build including bending the backhalf tubing up , actually the whole build.
To answer your question about driving it on the street I do not know but will tell you next month because I am trying finnish installing all my stuff into the new car. If I can I will be going to "DRAGNITE " race in South Carolina with my wife Sue. We plan to make the cruise with the ASA cars and race it in either Pro Mod or ? My car will not be legal for ASA because I have a turbo and added NOS on it ( only 1 power adder allowed) . I expect it will be like driving a 3 puck on the street but I will let you know if you are interested. Mike McCarthy
